Smoky and tiny in Sydney

Hello Friends,

Thursday morning’s theme is smoke. Skies were cloudless, but burning off has blanketed the joint with that familiar browny-grey haze and the almost vanilla-y odour of burnt vegetation is pervasive. Probably not great for people with respiratory issues, but the photographer in me likes the soft and moody lighting.

Anyway, as you’ve worked out, there’s still nothing much going on surfwise. The MHL buoy is showing about a metre of ENE wind swell at about 6 seconds apart. The smoke will likely be blown away when the expected 20-30 kt SW change rattles through later this morning. However it’s not going to bring us anything in the way of surf.

The forecast models continue to paint a picture of flatness. There’s still a prospect of a quickfire south pulse late Saturday into Sunday morning. Unfortunately the Bureau is predicting 20 kts of southerly with it, so options are likely to be problematic.

Have yourself a great Thursday!

Weather Situation
A weak high pressure system lies over the central Tasman Sea while a broad trough with an associated cold front is moving across New South Wales. North to northwesterly winds along the New South Wales coast will remain fresh to strong on Thursday and turn southwesterly as the trough makes its way to the Tasman. A high pressure ridge is expected to enter the west of the state in a wake of the tough to produce a generally southwest to southeasterly airstream from late Friday and through the weekend.
