Dee Why: Sunshine and some punchy waves–and a fair bit of mayhem.

Sparkling start to the day today in Dee Why. Nice surprise to see how well the Council cleaned up the reserve after the thousands of people yesterday and last night for the festival in Dee Why. For a change, a relatively-well behaved crowd, albeit the usual dim-witted drunks who inevitably attempt to spoil the party for everyone. Council officers and Dee Why Police arrived to sort things out in pretty short order.

This morning there’s a crowd about 10 on The Point. Small, considering the conditions actually look pretty good, though somewhat deceiving. The easterly swell is making it tough to get onto them with a lot a carnage happening. Rarely saw anyone getting a wave–about one success in every five attempts.

Presently, there’s 2-4m from the east at 9-13 sec — still seeing some residual from Cyclone Evan’s remnants. Decent wave, just infrequent — and you need to be quick!

Forecast is for the swell to remain about the same today with a building nor’east wind to about 25 knots by afternoon.
