Southerly and small

Hello Friends,

Southerly was hammering along at 20 kts around 0545 and there was no real swell. The MHL Sydney buoy was showing the main energy coming from the same direction as the wind (big surprise). Out at sea the chop is getting close to the two metre mark, but because the average period is around 6 seconds, I would not expect anything in protected corners, and only messy knee to waist plus junk in spots where it’s most directly onshore.

There’s a 70% chance of a shower or two today for Sydney, and the wind is set to move more around to the SE. Great. Well, at least I’m not missing anything. Here in southern California it’s cold, sunny and just about flat. Plus, the water is a toasty 13.

The outlook for Sydney and Santa Barbara as it happens, is about the same in terms of surf. It’s set to be flat to very small on both sides of the Pacific for the next few days. There might possibly be a knee to waist high lump here and there in Sydney tomorrow and Wednesday, but it’s going to be marginal at best. Should anyone from Cali be reading this, I reckon soCAl is outta luck until next weekend – but then it could really turn around thanks to some nice Aleutian juice…

Go well with your Monday!
