When the wind drops…

Hello Friends,

At 0600 swell was out of the SE at close to 2 metres with an average period of 8 seconds. Wind was SSE at 8-10 knots, and the next tide was a high at 1145. Morning cloud is set to clear away and the wind is due to come around to the NE and be a bog standard 15-20kts by this afternoon. Beaches with south exposure will be the best shot, but my reading of the numbers suggests that Sydney surfers won’t be seeing much quality. Still, it probably won’t be flat (assuming you’re prepared to chase waves where the wind is strongest this morning).

Water temp seems to be edging up toward 22 offshore, but with the NEr this afternoon, it may not be quite as warm along the beach. Contrast that with the water where your correspondent is however. If I want to go for a surf (which I can’t because SoCal is flat), I’ll have to rug up against 12 degrees!!! Not sure my wimpy 3/2 will cut it when the swell arrives here mid next weeknd…

Outlook for Sydney is pretty ordinary. The models project marginal to near flat for this week, but maybe late in the weekend, there could be some longer period and juicier stuff if a south swell develops.

Go well with your Tuesday!
