Hello (again) Friends,
Came back from my morning airport run to find Curly with three or four people waiting around for something anything at high tide. Biggest thing I saw was maybe waist high – screaming outside max.
Stopped in DY for a coffee and as the tide dropped there were actually some little waist plus sets. Very weak though.
Just checked again at 1400 and as the picture below shows, no one’s in the water in front of the SLSC and for good reason; there really aren’t any waves. Guess we’ve gotta hope that maybe things will improve tomorrow… even though the Goat’s prediction is pretty ho-hum…
Here’s what I wrote before daybreak…
Have to do an airport run, so up very early. In fact, it’s still dark, so a picture will have to wait until I get back through rush hour to the beaches.
From the MHL data, it looks as though waves will be very tiny and weak. Only a metre or so of NE wind chop (period is just 6 seconds) showing out at sea. Plus, the tide’s high at around 0850. Through in a forecast of rain and the prospects aren’t looking too red hot.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast, while a broad low pressure trough lies over the state’s west. Over the next few days the high will drift slowly east, maintaining generally east to northeast winds along the coast until a low pressure trough affects the region during the weekend.
Forecast for Friday until midnight
Winds
North to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore during the afternoon and evening.
Seas
1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres around midday.
Swell
Northeast to southeasterly around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore by early evening.
Saturday 15 February
Winds
North to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning northwesterly 10 to 15 knots in the late evening.
Seas
1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres during the morning.
Swell
Northeasterly around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday.
Sunday 16 February
Winds
North to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots during the day then becoming south to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon.
Seas
Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning.
Swell
Northeasterly 1.5 metres.
