WW1 ~~~~~~~~~~

This week ceremonies were held to mark the start of World War 1 and its significant effects on Australians.  Interesting insights into life and times 100 years ago are in the personal diary of Verdi Schwinghammer from Grafton who enlisted in the AIF:  ” Durban – Surfing on the fine beaches was a delight, especially as the weather was very hot”.  The full State Library transcript is here: http://acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/_transcript/2012/D16592/a5657.htm
