Wind going hard from early

Hello Friends,

The southerly was humming through the rigging from first light. At 0645 it was 20-30 kts along the coast of Sydney and the MHL buoy was showing 1.8 metres of 7-sec NE wind swell. There were a few keen types in the water at Dee Why chasing some very scrappy looking waist high lumps under a grey and hazy sky. Tide’s been dropping since 0520 and will hit low at 1140.

The wind is expected to ease back a little this morning and then to turn SE in the afternoon. Swell isn’t likely to change much. Tomorrow the wind should be lighter for the early, but it’ll still be coming from the easterly quarters. It should be NE in the afternoon and the Bureau is projecting a small increase in swell height, but the period doesn’t seem likely to change much.

Longer term outlook is for southerly pulse on Friday, but the wind will be coming from the same direction, so I’m not getting too excited at this stage. I think the plan is to just dial the expectations down and to look for the fun ones wherever they may be.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Weather Situation

A trough and associated strong southerly change lie on the central part of the coast and will move north along the remainder of the coast today and gradually weaken. Behind this, a weak high is forecast to bring a brief return to northerly winds in most areas during Thursday, before the next trough and southerly change move along the coast Thursday night and Friday.
