Zippo at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

As of 0700 we were looking at 1.3 metres of 8-second SSE wind swell along Sydney’s beaches. There was also a little 10-sec NNE component, so there were tiny waves in some unexpected places like the south end of Manly where set wave faces were perking into the chest high range. Meanwhile, more exposed stretches where you’d have thought we’d be seeing something more substantial were feeble and not much above the waist high mark on the biggest ones.

It was glassy as we came up on low tide at 0950, but the Bureau tells us to expect the southerly to gradually build up and by this afternoon to be belting along at 25-30 kts. Interestingly, they aren’t expecting us to see any real change to the south energy levels until tomorrow morning. At that point the outlook is for 2-2.5 metres of short period south wind swell with some east to NE component. Unfortunately the southerly’s expected to still be pushing along in the 20-30 kt range.

The Goat usually posts his thoughts on a Thursday and this time around I’ll be keen to see what he makes of the trends. The various modellers are predicting a general increase in energy levels across next week, but it looks like being wind swell (periods in the 7-8 sec range).

Have yourself a top old Thursday and keep on smilin’!
