Hello Friends,
Saturday kicked off with partly cloudy skies, light offshores and an incoming tide following the low at 0630. The MHL buoy was picking up 1.3 metres of 8-sec SSE wind swell along with some small NE component.
Definitely a few little waves about this morning. The combo swell seems to be focussing the energy at particular places. The Dee Why end of the beach was seemingly getting the best of it compared to Longy (which was very small). There was another distinct focal zone near the Collaroy surf club. I’d expect this pattern to be playing out at lots of beaches today.
Wind’s expected to go SE by this afternoon, so this morning is definitely the go. From the shape of the forecasts the wind’ll be doing the southerly thing until mid to late in the coming week. Oh and water quality wasn’t too fabulous yesterday according to beachwatch.
Right now the end of the week is looking the most promising on the models. If they’re right Thursday and Friday mornings could be offshore and head and a bit. Roll on autumn!
Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie is well offshore and has become very slow-moving, but will continue to direct fresh to strong winds over the northern New South Wales coast during the next few days. A high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge across the state’s south this morning. A weak cold front will move along southern and central parts of the coast late today or early Sunday, with the high gradually drifting eastwards in its wake. This pattern is expected to maintain generally southerly winds over most waters until mid-week.
