The Goat’s Surf Forecast

Surf forecast issued Thursday 1 June 2017: Seven day outlook for Sydney:

It only seems a few days, less than a week in fact, since I last had a surf, but already the sudden onset of wintry conditions over the last couple of days has made it less appealing to me to want to get wet … and I suspect, a lot of other people.  But I’m sure we’ll get some nice days ahead through winter, and the water is still warmish, so don’t fret just yet. Out of the chilly wind it feels fine, but the windchill has been dropping morning air temps of 9 or 10 down to 2 or 3!

The large waves at places open to dead South swell today are likely to be there again tomorrow, then gradually ease back to Wednesday when it looks like coming up again at dead South spots.

A word of caution for those who are keen to just go out anyway… watch for the sets for a while before you go in.  That cold wind can sap your energy quicker than you think, and remember Dirty Harry’s words: “A man’s GOT to know his limitations” … That applies more and more to those of us who “used to go out in ‘that’ size”.  There are no lifesavers on patrol watching in case you need help. Surf with a mate. Open beaches are not the place for beginners this week.

Friday: around 2. 2+ metres at places open to South swell, with a fair period meaning some of it might get into  corners normally protected from South swell

Saturday: down a little, but still upper end of 1-2 metre range at dead South places

Sunday: easing back more, size and period,  in the 1-2 metre range dead South

Monday: in the 1-2 metre range South East, smaller period

Tuesday: around 1 or some metres at first then could start to come up later at dead South places

Wednesday: around 2, 2+ metres looks like at this stage, easing back in the 1-2 metre range dead South

Thursday: in the 1-2 metre range South East
