Smooth but small

Hello Friends,

Not much wind as the day got started, so conditions looked smooth – but very small. There were a few bods poking around near Kiddies, but the point was struggling to be plausibly surfable. At 0500 swell was 1.4 m at 11 seconds from the S-SSE (148-152°) and as I write this, North Head is recording calm conditions. Tide was high at 0500 and is now dropping to a low of 0.48 at 1045. Beachwatch reported that the water temperature was down to 15°C yesterday morning.

Wind is set to build up from the N-NE later (the Bureau has a strong wind warning for 20-25 kts later and there’s a 60% of showers.

There isn’t much of interest in this morning’s long range forecasts. Near term looks like being small to just about flat through the weekend. If you’re an optimist, some of the models are showing the potential for a slight uptick Monday – but I’m not overly hopeful at this stage.

Have a great Thursday everyone and keep on smilin’

Weather Situation

A strong high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is extending a ridge over the Waters. The high will drift slowly east today promoting northeasterly winds. Increasing northerly winds will precede the next cold front, which is forecast to cross the southern coast on Friday, continuing to the north on Saturday. A new high pressure ridge begins to build on Sunday, with most areas seeing a decrease in wind strength.
