Another very warm day coming up without much in the way of wave activity at Dee Why. As of 0820 the tide was still pretty high (it peaked at 1.63m at 0633) and the waves looked to be in the knee to maybe knee plus range just up the beach from the club. There were only a few people in the water waiting for a go, which also tells you something about the low energy surf situation. As I write this, the wind down at North Head is out of the SSW and various local weather stations were showing air temps of 23C along the coast. The Bureau says we can expect a high of 29 today and Beachwatch says water’s at 20C.
The latest MHL data from 0600 showed 1.3 metres of 5.6-second dribble coming at us from 126-130° (ESE) – ie, almost nothing. The wind should come around to the NE by this afternoon, so maybe it will push up a few windtorn lumps at exposed spots. When I went for a walk yesterday at dusk there were some scrappy, super close together waist plus faces around Gardens or just south of there. But no one was in the water because it looked so dire. The swell models aren’t showing anything of real interest until maybe Friday-Saturday when several predict a little bump up in wave heights for the morning sessions…

A stationary high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards southeast Queensland, while weak trough lingers in the vicinity of the Sydney and Illawarra coasts. This pattern is maintaining a fresh northerly wind regime over the northern waters, with weaker south to southeasterlies about southern parts. The trough is expected to dissipate during Thursday, resulting in north to northeasterly winds extending along the entire coast. Another trough looks set to affect southern waters on the weekend.
