Messed up and posted this in the late afternoon… sorry early risers! Here’s a link to a few pictures I took down at the point right around high tide.
Around 20 keen types braving the icy wind to chase shoulder high sets at the point and along the beach before 0800 this morning. The 0600 data from the MHL buoy shows the swell has dropped quite a bit, but is still 2.6 metres from the SE (158°) at 9 seconds. At report writing time a little before 0800, the wind was 10-12 kts from the west. Ocean is 21C according to Beachwatch, who also report that water is suss from Collaroy to Freshwater, and pollution is likely from Queensie to the Bower. Tide is coming into a moderate 1.43 metre high at 1030.
The wind is expected to pick up this morning as it swings to the S-SW at 15-20 kts and then late in the afternoon goes to the south.
The Goat will be along later with his thoughts on the outlook for the week ahead, but from my quick scan of the models, I’m expecting advice along the lines of ‘get in if you can, because it’s gonna get smaller pretty soon’.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system over the Bight and a strong cold front over the southern Tasman Sea are generating fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds along the New South Wales Coast. Winds will gradually ease and tend south to southeasterly as the front moves away and the high drifts across Victoria. During Saturday the high pressure centre will shift to the Tasman Sea with winds tending northerly along the south coast, and easterly in the north.
