Grey, southerly and tiny for Sunday morning

Hello Friends,
By 0800 when I took the pictures, the southerly was belting along 15-20 kts under gloomy but at least not smoky skies. As of 0500 the MHL buoy was bouncing around in 7 second 2.6 m SSE swell. But as you can see, there wasn’t much of a line evident at the point (and no takers). There were a few super keen types in the water just north of Kiddies but they didn’t catch anything while I watched. My guess is that they’d be seeing the odd set into the waist high range. Tide is dropping to the low at 1215.
Weather is supposed to be cloudy all day with a high of 23C and a 10% chance of a light sprinkle.
There’s some divergence between the ECM and Wavewatch models about our prospects for a wave during the Christmas week. Wavewatch predicts heights in the metre range – give or take a bit – with 12-13 second periods tomorrow and Tuesday. The ECM model predicts 1.2-1.4 metre heights but periods only in the 6-7 second range. As always, we’ll see what happens…
Have a good Sunday and hope the cooler weather helps the RFS get on top of the fires this week.

Weather Situation
A trough associated with a cold front over the southern Tasman Sea brought a gusty southerly change to southern and central parts of the coast yesterday. This southerly change will weaken as it moves northward along the north coast today. At the same time, a high pressure system south of the Bight will track east across Bass Straight, reaching the western Tasman Sea by the end of today. From Monday afternoon this high will ensure the dominance of northeasterly winds over most coastal zones for the remainder of the weak, apart from the possibility of two brief weak southerly changes over southern waters on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
