More swell, more crowds for Sunday morning

Hello Friends,
There’s a 70% chance of showers for today, but this morning was sunny over the beaches (albeit with clouds off to the south). Swell has bumped up a little since yesterday morning and as of 0910 was 1.8 m from 183° (dead south) at 11 seconds. Swell looked to be missing the point on lots of sets and up the beach the long period was ensuring most waves were shutting down. Size was in the chest plus range on the bigger ones. Tide was high at 0600 and is currently dropping to the low at 1225. As of 0900 the wind was WSW at 3-4 kts, but the Bureau says it should drift around to the east and NE as the day goes along. According to this morning’s beachwatch observations, the ocean is up a touch to 22C.
Looking ahead, the models are generally predicting a fade to near flat by midweek.
Take care everyone, wash your hands frequently too because the virus can persist for hours (even days) on surfaces.

By Order of the Federal Government, our beaches are open for exercise only – surfing, swimming, running and walking.  Beaches will be closed due to unsafe conditions and or mass gatherings. All pools are closed at this time.

Please see some commonly asked questions about the beach closures.

If people are sunbaking or gathering on the beach, they will be asked to move along by our lifeguards, rangers or the police.

Due to the risk of Coronavirus and acting on direction of NSW and Federal Governments, Council has closed many public areas. View the latest updates on the evolving situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In addition, it is against the law to gather with more than two people in public, except:

  • for members of the same household
  • where the gathering is essential for work or education
  • If you go out, stay 1.5 metres away from other people at all times.

The rules are also now enforceable and Police are issuing fines of $1000 for individuals and $5000 for companies. These are difficult circumstances and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Looks like weather off to the south at 0900

Still the odd shoulder plus set rolling through at the point.

Weather Situation
A coastal low trough is expected to deepen this morning as an upper disturbance moves across the region, but this trough will then weaken this afternoon and evening as the upper disturbance moves away to the east. Meanwhile, a high will move over New South Wales and persist over the state for the next few days. A cold front will slip away to the south of the high on Monday, but will bring freshening northwest winds to southern waters.
