Options for the keen

Hello Friends,

The forecast was for E to SE 20-30 kts but at daybreak the wind was still coming lightly from the west. Out at sea the swell was 2.5 metres at a shade under 10 seconds apart and coming mainly from the SSE. The first tide of the daylight hours is the modest 1.3 m high at 1030. And weather, well, in case it had somehow escaped your attention, the outlook was and is for rain, possibly heavy at times. Accumulations of 60-90 mm are possible and tomorrow it’ll be even worse, with this morning’s prediction for Sunday warning of 100-150 mm!

As the pictures show, surface conditions were still smooth at 0700 when I grabbed the snaps. Sets were into the chest to shoulder high range, but you had to pick your spot (as usual). Waves looked fun and there weren’t many in. But, when the wind arrives, the options will diminish pretty severely.

Have a great Saturday one and all!

Weather Situation

A high pressure system is strengthening south of the Bight, extending a ridge across the southern waters while a trough develops along central and northern parts. This pattern will bring south to southeasterly winds along the New South Wales coast, becoming strong about central parts during the weekend and into the new week. There is potential for an East Coast Low to form within the trough later this weekend or into Monday which would strengthen winds further.
