PICS: Sat. morning at Sth Curly
Posted on September 4th, 2011 in Curl Curl, Don's surfin' pics, Top stories.
A small SSE swell of around 1.5-2 metres coincided nicely with an incoming tide at South Curly on Saturday morning and I was there with the camera.
I shot for about an hour between 0900 and 1000 from a spot about 100 m north of the South Curl Curl SLSC.
It was sunny, glassy and pretty busy in the water, but there were some fun chest to shoulder high set waves to be caught. Below is a slideshow of some of the better ones. You can jump to the complete gallery by clicking here.

After running a heap of errands I finally got down to south Narrabeen right on dusk. Opted to take pictures rather than go for a short surf. I set up basically in front of Marquesas and shot up and down the beach from there. The energy focus definitely shifted around quite a bit. Sometimes the southern peaks were all happening and then they’d go quiet and the northern peaks would have a turn. I only had light enough to shoot for about half an hour, but I still managed to get more than 200 frames. If you were out, check ‘em out!

PICS by Don: South Curly, Sat morning 13/8/11

Saturday morning delivered a small SE swell to Sydney’s Curl Curl beach and I was on hand to shoot it from around 1015 to 1115. Waves were on the soft side it has to be said, but there were definitely a few fun little sections along with the very occasional head high plus bomb set. I set up at a position roughly 1/3 the way up the beach from South Curl Curl SLSC and focused mainly on the complex of rideable peaks to the south of me. If you were in the water and caught a wave in that time, there’s an excellent chance that I got a shot of you.

PICS: South Curly, Monday arvo

Yep, the tide was way too high, but after more than a week of wavelessness even a fat but head high south swell looked good. I wanted to get some shooting practice, so I spent half an hour pinging away as people did what they could with the glassy conditions. As always any picture in the gallery can be purchased. Another sunny day with heaps of south swell energy pushing into Dee Why, so I took a break from responsibilities and wandered down to take pictures for an hour or so. Sets wave faces were shoulder to well overhead too.

PICS by Don: Carparks, Narrabeen, Sunday crunch time
Posted on July 11th, 2011 in Don's surfin' pics, North Narrabeen, Top stories.Coming back from a reccy up the peninsula, I decided on a whim to look at Northy. A single tow-in crew and a couple paddle-in riders were taking their chances in the board snapping barrels at Carparks, so I set up the camera and waited patiently for them to have a go…

PICS by Don: Dee Why late morning Sunday
Posted on July 11th, 2011 in Dee Why, Don's surfin' pics, Top stories. As the wind kicked into high gear, I made my way to Dee Why to find the Sunday crowds at their thickest and the DY crew holding a contest at the point. Waves were pretty good, so I shot off a few snaps before having to run away on an errand. Got a few of the point and the left…

PICS by Don: Sunday, Longy Bombies…
Posted on July 11th, 2011 in Don's surfin' pics, Long Reef, Top stories.Got down to the Bombies around 0930, not long before the wind really started to ramp up. There were quite a few people out on German Bank and on the next bomby in from there. I shot until the wind just got insane. Just click the pic below to check out the snaps…
PICS by Don: Saturday pumping Dee Why beachy
Posted on July 10th, 2011 in Dee Why, Don's surfin' pics, Top stories. It was insanely busy at Dee Why in the middle of a perfect winter Saturday afternoon. The swell was rocking and the left in particular was almost a machine. I only shot for an hour or so, but managed to reap a nice collection of beautiful looking waves. One of the better days of the year for that place I’d say. Certainly in the top 10!

Stopped by South Narrabeen briefly to see if the big south swell was working its way in. It sort of was, but the waits were quite long and the sets were considerably smaller than the energy I’d shot earlier at Avalon. I didn’t stick around too long but I still ended up coming home with a little gallery to share… simply click on the pic below and you’ll jump over to it. Yup, all pictures are for sale and immediate download.
