Make Waves for Manly’s Festival of Surfing – 5-8 Nov 2009
Posted on September 17th, 2009 in Contests, For the Diary, Local Colour, News Stories, Site News, Surf culture, Surf News, Top stories.Manly NSW — This November, join legends of the surf and local enthusiasts for one massive celebration of Australian culture. Presented by Global Surf Industries, with thanks to Manly Council, the Manly Festival of Surfing is hitting shores from November 5 to 8, 2009. And Don and Shari from RealSurf will be there too!
As the Global Surf Industries mantra goes, “life is better when you surf”, so what better way to put this motto into action and celebrate our national pastime than by staging a huge four day, action-packed event in Australia’s spiritual birthplace of surfing – and one of the most beautiful spots in the world – Manly.
In what they hope to be the biggest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Manly extends an open invitation to all Australians to a non-stop mix of not only board-riding itself, but of music, fashion, art, film and literature too.
Best bit? It’s an event for everyone. Following a paddle-out ceremony for one and all to kick things off, there’ll be loads (and loads) of awesome stuff to do. Daily surf lessons will be a must-do, plus you can take in a surf documentary at Manly Cinema, chow down at a first-class dinner with some of our true surfing legends with the likes of Tom Carroll, Layne Beachley and Damien Hardman or stick around until dark for night surfing demos.
To soak up even more of Manly’s surf history spanning almost a century, the Manly Surf Club and The Manly Art Gallery will be open for all to view during the festival period. If you’re looking to take a small piece of this incredible surf festival home, 30 surfboard artworks from various local artists have been created and scattered throughout Manly’s shop fronts, which will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Disabled Surfers Association and Surf Aid International.
The public will also have the opportunity to test all of the latest and greatest board models available from extremely popular 7s Fishes through to the wild and wonderful Meyerhoffer longboard designs, courtesy of major surfboard distributors including Manly’s very own –Global Surf Industries.
If you haven’t caught the super contagious surfing bug after all of that, grab a ticket, kick back and soak up the atmosphere of the 1970’s film classic Morning Of The Earth. This visual masterpiece will be played as the backdrop to the live performance of the original soundtrack, which will be played live by the original writers and performers Brian Cadd and Tim Gaze.
Grab your board (and your festival spirit) and join celebrities Wayne Gardner, Bob McTavish and a host of surfing experts to watch a community come together for the inaugural Manly Festival of Surfing. ‘Cos surfing isn’t just a sport – it’s a way of life!

Byron Bay Today Aug 9 09
Posted on August 10th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Site News, surf photography, Surf Reports, Weather. It was another summery winter’s day In Byron Bay Today. Good God we’ve had it good, with the weather lately. Ok folks there were a few small waves in the bay today, nothing too flash, or powerful. But for the logging crew and the little ones there were plenty of slides to be had. The swell swung a little from the south to the south east allowing a little more size to creep into the bay as the day went on. But as the swell increased the wind slowly swung onshore. However it never really got strong enough to much of an issue, In Byron Bay Today. To all those fabulous folks who chose to pose, thank you, for being here with us In Byron Bay Today.
In Byron Bay Today, important information for our readers & subscribers.

- Silas Mackay from the Byron RipCurl shop was the first winner fo our custom Bob Brown giveaway, In Byron bay Today.
It was a rather special day for us today, as we got to experience the buzz of bringing some serious happy vibes to another human being. Today we delivered a brand spanking new 9’4” custom made Bob Brown Hot Dogger, that’s been personally tweaked for the winner of our subscriber’s lucky draw. So who was the lucky bloke? One Silas Mackay of Byron bay that’s who, and wasn’t he just stoked. We strolled into the shop where he works, and handed him a freebee worth well over $1.6K. So who’s next? We’ll be telling you guys more about that later, because that ain’t the end of it, it’s just the beginning. There will more, much more, but if you don’t check the site and subscribe; well you probably won’t win. As for Silas, congratulations in order buddy, we can’t wait to see you surf it. Now to the surf, it was bloody average but hey it was another stunner of a day. So it was good to get out and shoot what little there was anyway, as there’s nowhere else we’d rather be than In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay Today Aug 2nd 09
Posted on August 3rd, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Site News, surf photography, Surf Reports, Weather.Greetings Real surfers, well we’re back at it, In Byron Bay Today. It was a glorious Sunday in the bay with people everywhere, the Byron Markets were buzzing and the sun was out. Meanwhile down at the beach it was offshore and looking a lot like logger heaven. But not looking good at all for the little whiteboards I’m afraid we got those banks again, slow and cruisey. Fun for a moose, but just no juice for anything smaller, even the fishes were finding it hard. Now you’ll want to take a close look around the site. A few things have changed while we were off. Told you we wouldn’t be able to help ourselves. You will find five new people in the Who’s that section, it’s a good and slightly controversal read. We’ve started to list our reviews as well, so make sure you keep an eye on the Latest Reviews section as well. There’s also the Simple Pleasures section. Now this is handy, because there are already discounts in there. We’ve really only just started this section and already there are offers in there worth making use of. You’ll also notice that there’s a little box to the right. That’s the weather, tide, swell and wind info for byron today, so while you’re enjoying checking yesterday’s photos you can be making plans for getting a few waves In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay Today is on Holiday till next monday.

Posted on July 26th, 2009 in Advertorial, Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Site News, surf photography, Surf Reports.Welcome to, In Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Windup. It’s been a stunner fo a week weather wise but we really didn’t see much swell up here at all. There have been some small waves for the kids and those of us keen on logging it. But apart from that most have just been getting wound up for Splendour in the Grass this weekend. In fact Splendour is in full swing while I’m sitting in the office tapping this out. You know guys we love bringing you In Byron Bay Today, it truly is and always will be a labour of love to a large degree, yet we also need to eat and cover our costs. The time has come to open the doors for business. Now we don’t like website ads anymore than you do. So we’re doing things differently here. We’ll be listing our first reviews over the next few days. To our readers, keep a close eye on who makes it in for two simple yet important reasons. Firstly because those who do make it in are businesses that we have gone and sampled what they offer. Secondly because we are giving them discounts if they offer you discounts. So pay close attention in the near future and you’ll get the best of Byron for a little less through In Byron Bay Today.

Byron Bay Today July 1 / 09 + Feb o9 most popular
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Site News, Surf Reports.Well there you go started the new financial year with a surprise NE swell In Byron Bay Today. I didn’t see that one coming. Problem is it also came with strong straight north winds, and cold murky water. It had some thump, which was fun, but just wasn’t hitting the banks right anywhere. Which would explain why we had size, but no crowds.
Now back to our mission for this week the ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron Bay Today’ for summer & autumn. Today’s is the most clicked on for February 09. Yesterday we were pretty sure we could see a pattern beginning to emerge. Today we’re certain. BTW Have you noticed the blatant omission? In February 09 Byron bay saw some very nice waves. There was crystal clear water, nice lines, reasonable size and some well talented surfers about. Yet that’s not what you chose, sure those shots got good traffic and plenty of clicks. But that traffic was nothing compared to these shots, some of these images outranked the standard surf shots by thousands of hits. So there ya go. Tomorrow we bring you the ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron Bay Today’ for March 09, which is also the middle of storm swell season. It’ll be interesting to see what you guys were into back then. On Sunday we’ll be back to our usual antics. In Byron Bay Today
Byron Bay Today Jun 30 /09 + Jan 09′s Most popular
Posted on July 1st, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Site News, Surf Reports. There wasn’t much change today in the bay, as Talking heads once put it. Same as it ever was. We’re in that flat westerly winter cycle right now. But there’s hope on the horizon. If you don’t mind dragging a log or a fish with a little extra floatation out for a spin, you’ll find some pretty sweet little peeks around the open side. Just do yourself a favour and go for a walk. To get away from the Wicked Van set. If you’re a little lost for something to do, check out our ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron bay Today’ for January 09 based on what you guys have clicked on the most. Now we’re no longer that surprised by what’s coming up as the most viewed. In fact we’re seeing a pattern emerging in this whole exercise. Question is can you see it too?
Don’t forget tomorrow we’ll be putting together the ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron bay Today’ for February 2009.There was some pretty nice waves back then so keep an eye out for it.
