Enthusiasms, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 in Byron.

Despite the lack of form, the warm spring weather mixed with some crystal clear water and a few small but opportunistic lumpy bits of wind swell. Had the local crew enthusiastically dissecting whatever was on offer, in Byron Bay today. Spring can do that to you, especially when it’s been a cold winter. Then all of sudden it’s like Huey flicks a switch and it’s warm and sunny in the bay. Suddenly a surf you would look twice at, can fill a bloke with enthusiasms, In Byron Bay Today.

Spring Has Sprung, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on September 2nd, 2010 in Byron.

That’s right folks winter is officially over and spring has sprung in Byron Bay today. True to form Huey dished up some warm weather, strong northerly winds and a few small, lumpy but fun little peaks around the open side. Spring in the bay is anyone’s guess weather wise. It can be summery one minute and cold and wintery the next. About the only given at this time of year is the winds and the whales. You can bet we’ll see plenty of whales, and not matter what direction the wind blows from although northerly is pretty safe bet. You can bet it’ll blow hard most days. That’s just Huey’s way for spring on the North Coast, In Byron Bay Today.

Every Last Drop, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on September 1st, 2010 in Byron.

That’s it folks, we all managed to squeeze every last drop out of the last day of winter, in Byron Bay today. Winter has come and gone quiet quickly, we had some glorious weather, although not much swell. There were moments when Huey turned it on, but all in all it was pretty small. Bu that hasn’t stopped the local crew from squeezing every last drop from what’s been on offer and to today was no exception, In Byron Bay Today.

Slide Time, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 31st, 2010 in Byron.

The south swell began to fade quickly, dashing the hopes of the little white board set, yet turning on some logger gems as a consolation prize, in Byron Bay today. So the slide time was on and those with right equipment were smiling quietly to themselves all day. Speaking of sliding, keep your eyes open folks. A good sized three metre plus shark slid right up under the crew today, nice and quiet like, cruising real slow. The cheeky bugger sidled up next to yours truly. It was about this time that I bravely decided that it was about time to go get some lunch, rather than risk being lunch. The big guy must have moved on, as the afternoon saw a decent sized crew, having a ball and slipping into a few, In Byron Bay Today.

Solid Sound, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 30th, 2010 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Oh what a joy to wake this morning to solid sound of southerly lines shutting down the open beaches today. Sure, The Cape robbed it of some size and thump out, as the lines wrapped one eighty degrees en route, in Byron Bay today. But even in its reduced capacity, the much anticipated swell had enough folks frothing their chops at the thought of some nice long logger lines for a sunny Sunday. The crowd was pretty intense at times, not quite sure what the idea behind beginners hassling like Hawaiian black shorts is all about. But apart from that silliness there was much, hooting, hollering and all round rejoicing at the solid sound of a southerly swell, In Byron Bay Today.

Oh So Pretty, In Byron Bay Today’s Weekend review.

Posted on August 29th, 2010 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Oh so pretty and witty and wise, and I pity any girl who isn’t,,,, oops sorry about that, channelling Westside Story for some bizarre reason, in Byron Bay today. Hmm could be a mixture of lack of sleep and a decent dose of gold old fashioned middle aged madness. Whatever the cause, it matters not. What does matter is regardless of all the calls we had from surf reporters about there being no surf to be had in the bay this last week. The truth is, there were waves, and although small and a little harder to find than usual. They were pretty and well worth paddling into for a bit of fun. Fact is those who make the effort to get out and look beyond where the video cameras point, usually score, In Byron Bay Today.

Striking Distance, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 27th, 2010 in Byron.

No real swell just yet, but I can’t help feeling that there may something just within range real soon, in Byron Bay today. The westerlies are still howling through town, and it’s flat in the bay. Yet the open beaches are starting to show signs of life, enough to start thinking about dusting off a stick and maybe go get wet just for the sake of it. One thing can be said about this weather, it sure is beautiful. We may all be getting a little wave starved, but the skies are clear, the water’s crystal. It’s a good time to stroll the beaches and look for new banks, perhaps a spot that may be pulling a little more swell than elsewhere. Because when the new swell hits, it’s nice to know which banks will be within easy striking distance, In Byron Bay Today.

Impromptu Air Show, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Byron.

No one could deny that apart from a few short bursts of swell, it’s been a pretty flat winter in Byron Bay. This last week has been no exception thanks to the strong westerly airflow. So when the crew awoke this morning to find a nice little pulse southerly wind swell driving into the ocean side, there was much rejoicing indeed. Everyone got so amped up at the prospect of a little bit of power under their feet. That it soon turned into an impromptu air show, as the crew started frothing, In Byron Bay Today.

Hueys Pastilles, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 25th, 2010 in Byron.

Opportunities for waves were rare but for those who made the effort, timed it right and jumped through those windows when they opened. There were waves to be had, in Byron Bay today. The swell never really got over waist height, yet it did turn on some nice clean little peaks that worth paddling into. Add to that the joyous skies we were spoilt with most of the day, it was pretty hard not to not, just kick back and enjoy the view, In Byron Bay Today.

Windy Whales, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 24th, 2010 in Byron.

No, not talking about Humpbacks blowing bum trumpets from too much curry last night. But rather, a howling spring style northerly was blowing through town while whales breach all over the place, in Byron Bay today. It’s just what they tend to do when the winds up in the bay, I’m sure there’s many speculative theories on this. But for me until a whale actually marches up the beach and explains why this behaviour is going down on a windy day. I’m just going to assume that the big guys get a tad excited when Huey’s blowing a gale, In Byron Bay Today.
