Dee Why to Bungan report 10:45am

Drove from Dee Why to Bungan earlier this morning, checking everything along the way and the tip is South Narrabeen, although you’re way to late to avoid the crowd that’s gathered. Lots of quick, zippey barrels, quite a few close-outs and mountains of seaweed on the inside, but some great waves. Not much happening anywhere […]

Waves around this morning

Went for a splash at Manly around 0900. Wasn’t too crowded and there were some sets into the head high range. But they were often rather soft and fat and slow. As the tide dropped, the crowd ramped up and the waves got a little more oomph. South wind was providing a little chop though. […]

That’s Monday done

Hello Friends, After staring at a computer screen all day, I finally went out for a look around to see how the real world was going. The wind was still an issue most places, but along stretches with more NE exposure it was a bit messy but not bad. One such was the stretch from […]

More waves at more places

Heya Just got some snaps of the Turrimetta to Collaroy stretch and of Long Reef. Lots and lots of folks in the water. I could see at least a dozen at Turimetta (and that’d just be the south end of the beach), 40-50 at Northy and probably twice that number again from there south to […]

Just before the southerly

I knew the southerly was coming, so I dashed over to Edgecliff Blvd and took a few long distance shots of the Collaroy Narrabeen stretch with my 40 yr old Century 650mm lens. Heaps of people in the water scoring a few fun ones before it went pear shaped as 20-30 kts of wind ripped […]

Doing the run around

Lotsa waves around this morning. Nowhere truly mindblowing, but there are heaps of opportunities for fun all up and down the beaches. I saw perfectly surfable waves at the following: The executive summary: Northy: 6/10 Dee Why beach: 4/10 Dee Why point: 4/10 North Curly: 7/10 Freshwater: 5/10 Queenscliff: 6/10 North Steyne: 6/10 South Steyne: […]

Pretty junky this morning

Hello Friends, One of those mornings where circumstances conspire to shut windows of opportunity before you can get to them. So, rather late with news that it’s junky pretty much everywhere along the lower northern beaches this morning. I started my survey with a visit to Queenscliff where I spied okay size and a few […]

A few pics from south Narra this am

Tide was not far off high and the swell was focusing on the Collaroy Narrabeen stretch, particularly the mid section near Gardens. I got a few pictures for ya (see below). Over 90 percent of set waves were shutting down, but there were some folks prepared to take off anyway…

Late arvo update: Huey’s showing some interest

Hello Friends, Since this morning, Huey’s decided to make a few changes. First he tweaked the swell direction back to SE from the dead south, then he bumped the average size from a metre to over two metres. At the same time the period has gone from 6 to 8 seconds. The only setting that […]

Freshy to Gardens

Hello Friends, As promised, went out and about with the lens to see if I could get a few extra pics from this morning’s beach activity. First stop was Freshy where one guy was waiting a very long time for knee to waist high sets. He finally jagged one and I got the shot below: […]
