On the road in the homeland
Posted on December 21st, 2009 in New Zealand.Well its been a tough few days with the South Westerly blowing its tits off here on the West Coast. This morning was the first real decent waves that I have seen in 4 days and the sun came out as well. Joy. Nothing beats a nice session at that little known break on the West Coast though. Far from epic but still a hell of alot of fun. Maybe becuase there was only 3 of us in the water for the low tide dawny. Hoping the wind may becoming from the east tom so its fingers crossed here. Seems this once sleepy little fishing village is now on the path to something much bigger – think Byron Bay in training. Only that the waves are better, its colder and you would be hard pressed to find the normal quality and quantity of beautiful people! Other than that its fairly similar – just on a smaller scale. Lots of envion friendly spots to eat and shop. Infact the Volcom shop over here is doing recycled boardshorts – you drop in y old ones and they get sent to Samoa. Nice touch. Its organic everywhere as expected and super tasty as well. A top spot and well worth a short stay if you ever get the chance. I used to hang here 15 years ago and the only thing that seems to have changed is the house prices – another reminder of its big brother of Byron Bay! You can see the view from my accommodation – at $25 a night its a bargain, you also see teh problems one faces on the golf course – sheep everywhere!! Its good to know that you can still catch yourself a decent feed at the local wharf. Nice!…..anyway I am back out there for the high tide session. Have yourselves a great xmas and I will try and post some more photos if I get a chance (nightmare as my wireless is not working anymore). Laters.
Huey is happy
Posted on February 2nd, 2009 in New Zealand.Huey is happy about the kiwi kids beating the aussie has beens last night. 2-3ft at Piha and winds shifting to offshores later. Decent East coast swell on the way for the long weekend after a week of near flatness. Start making plans!
Nationals
Posted on January 9th, 2009 in New Zealand.Swell is here. 4-6ft and will be offshore this weekend. Nationals are on at Piha, so expect crowds. East coast getting up to same size, and looks fantastic for Monday.
Swells on the way
Posted on January 8th, 2009 in New Zealand.2ft and growing at Piha, should be up to 4-5ft tomorrow, and it looks offshore for the whole weekend. East coast heading for 4-5ft by Sunday and light SE winds by then, so shaping up for a good one all over.
Flat as
Posted on December 28th, 2008 in New Zealand.Great conditions – bar no swell. Light offshores, and 1ft.
He Returns
Posted on December 27th, 2008 in New Zealand.First report for a longtime. New job and kids activities have limited the spare time. Ok 2-3ft at Piha with a variable wind. Not bad on the hightide, but expect sea breezes later when the sun cuts through the cloud. Looking like some swell soon out east with that low forming. Nothing epic, but enough for some offshores.
