Perfect conditions
Posted on September 19th, 2010 in South Carolina.Saturday was glass with light wind and that looks to be the norm with 6-8 foot swells peaking Sunday evening but a strong 4-6 foot swell continues through Tuesday. Go SURF!

Plan to call in sick Friday.
Posted on September 16th, 2010 in South Carolina.Swell should be increasing in the 3 foot + range as early as Thursday at sun set. But Friday is the day to call in as the swell should be on the same scale as Danielle (head high plus late in the day into Saturday). I am seeing winds not over 10 mph from the south which should make for a pleasant ride.

Just a wee bit o wave.
Posted on September 9th, 2010 in South Carolina.Buoy data showing 2 feet for the next couple of days with light winds. We will experience higher than normal tides through Tuesday so that pretty much cancels out any morning surf. Check the afternoon where you surf to see if the low tides will move your log.

No more waves

Hurricane Earl arrives late Thursday.
Posted on September 1st, 2010 in South Carolina.WAX UP. Still much is unknown at this time but 4 foot plus should be expected as Earl passes off the SC coast. Plus the winds do not appear to be as big a factor as with the last storm. Friday is showing west winds as the storm passes so we could have glass in the morning until afternoon when the winds go SW.
Roberto
As predicted, less than stellar.
Posted on August 31st, 2010 in South Carolina.NE winds pretty much blew out the last wave set from Hurricane Danielle that barely got to 5 foot. Strong lateral currents continue and wind chop dominates. Thursday Earl waves arrive. I am still going to say we will be diasappointed as while this storm will come closer to SC and NC, the winds are predicted to be as strong if not stronger due to the Low and High pressure that will squeeze this storm as it moves up the coast. But hey, I hope I am wrong.

A lot of hype about a swell not yet here.
Posted on August 28th, 2010 in South Carolina.Head high plus by Sunday they predict. Lots of surf. I say, maybe not ridable. While a Cat 4 hurricane 1200 miles off the coast will produce some swell, I am more concern about the strong E winds that are going to really be pushing this swell into a frothy mess. Some models say 9 feet by late Sunday, but again this may be a 5 foot storm pushed up by the wind which not only can be sloppy, but very unpredictable. So my forecast is this. Saturday the swell starts and the winds are already at 20 mph. Not good. Sunday, bigger waves, but the same strong wind…good luck. My best bet will be sometime after Monday clean up conditions may improve IF the winds have dropped.

Steady small swell for the next couple of days.
Posted on August 26th, 2010 in South Carolina.Drag those long boards out and soon change over to short boards come this weekend as 4-5 feet are expected as Hurricane Danielle passes east of Bermuda. Plus a second tropical wave behind Danielle looks favorable for development. These storms have mixed surf results but the slower and bigger they are, the more likely we will see surf above 5 feet. So stay tuned to weather stations for your area.

Changes are coming.
Posted on August 24th, 2010 in South Carolina. The calm mornings for long boards is going to change now that we have a Hurricane in the Atlantic. Models show by Saturday a swell starting, but I must say after years of watching these storms, only those that are slow moving ever generat a decent ride. So make plans for the coming weekend. As far as tomorrow, again, calm fun waves in the 2 + range.
