The Green Room Update, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on January 5th, 2012 in Best Days, Byron, Local Colour. So yeah what are we doing working when we’re meant to be on holidays, in Byron Bay today? Well, it’s simple really. We were just trawling through the archives of the site and noticed how many really good sessions there were for barrels in the bay last year. Now I got a thing for shooting barrels, in fact anyone who’s known me long enough would remember that I was once fanatical about hunting down tubes. Of course that was before I got old and crusty with joints that refuse to work, but I digress. I had to make the change from looking at them from the inside. To digging every excruciatingly beautiful moment from the outside, I’m fussy about barrels. I like to see people set them up properly, I like to see good timing, stalls where appropriate, and length of time inside. In fact I dig it so much that it makes me feel like screaming in frustration when I see a good barrel wasted for a lame off the top instead. But hey that’s just me. So I thought I’d share some of the moments that put a big smile on my face while shooting them in the bay. Not all of them were that big or that perfect. But every one of these was well timed and gave me just as much stoke as those getting slotted, because I always pull in mentally with them while shooting, In Byron Bay Today.
Pics by Don: Dee Why, Friday morning 17/6/11
Posted on June 19th, 2011 in Best Days, Dee Why, Don's surfin' pics.
Friday morning dawned sunny and offshore with a pumping 3 metre south swell at Dee Why. Your humble correspondent set up the camera and spent a couple hours shooting under great conditions. Have a look if you were in the water, I probably got a shot or two at least. Have look even if you weren’t in the water, you might see a mate in amongst those great waves. As always, click the pic below to go to the gallery. To see buying options, click individual pictures and look top left for the link to the prices.
PICS by Don: Long Reef bombies

After shooting at Dee Why point for most of the morning, I wandered up to Long Reef to get a few pictures of people towing and paddling in to the bombies. Lighting conditions were perfect and I only stopped shooting when everybody got out of the water. To see the whole gallery, just click the picture below.
Got wet. Did you?

Checked Northy and Mona (where PB and I got in), saw Dee Why later, heard from Kev at Manly – everywhere was firing this afternoon and everywhere was well crowded. Hope you got your share.
PICS: Chopes goes stupid
Posted on March 30th, 2010 in Best Days, surf photography, Top stories.I don’t know that these pics need any comment really. They were taken from [update] footage shot by Marco-Antoine Bouvant and passed along to us by the irrepressible Mr Tim Bonython. and will no doubt turn up in a future film festival! That place is nuts!!! Apparently the footage will be on the telly tonight…

Whatta Week It Woz: 19-20 Jan

I really can’t spin “the swell drought was busted” any differently to that of all the chatter that lit up the air waves this past week. It was needless to say a bit of a froth-fest as Huey delivered an amazing swell event to the East Coast after too long a wait. There was only one thing wrong with the whole situation though - work committments. Note to self: no more 9am meetings!
Anyway, I did manage to squeeze a few off Tuesday/Wednesday after/before work so it wasn’t a total loss. The pics have been posted and you can find them here: http://www.wozthatyou.com/group7759.html
Hope you’re all travelin’ well. And keep cool - it’s already a hot one today.
Cheers,
Doug
