PICS: Manly, Weds morning 5 Jan 2011

Posted on January 6th, 2011 in Click! Pics for folk, Manly, Top stories.

surfing manly

After weeks we finally get a little SE pulse with nice picture taking weather. I decided to check the situation at Manly and discovered there were some fun looking glassy peaks sliding in on the peaking tide. Heaps of folks were on it – which I love when I’m shooting – and while there was something of a wait between the sets, I still managed to fang off several hundred shots of regular folks catching nice waves.

As usual all these shots are for sale to raise funds for a new, even groovier lens and other photo gear I couldn’t otherwise afford. So, if you see a mate’s picture, let ‘em know! And just to kick things on in that regard, tell them to enter the code HAPPYSURF (just like that) when they get to the check out stage, and it’ll take 33% off the order price (this promo code expires 31/1/2011). Oh yeah, and to get a particular pic, just click on it and then look top left for where it says “Buying Options”.

Pics from Thursday: North Narrabeen

Posted on December 23rd, 2010 in Click! Pics for folk, North Narrabeen, surf photography, Top stories.

After lunch I wandered over to North Narrabeen to see what was what. There were small waves from about the Pines all the way to the Alley. A bunch of bodyboarders were looking to get smashed near carparks, while up at Northy things were slightly less hectic for the small crowd. As with Curly, the waves weren’t much to write home about, but the lack of wind meant people could enjoy some soft, glassy little peaks that very occasionally produced a mildly interesting section.

I grabbed a few piccies, so check ‘em out below…

BTW, if you end up wanting to buy a pic or pics from any of my galleries, then be sure to enter the coupon code HAPPYSURF and it will take 33% off the bottom line for ya.

Pics from Thursday: Curl Curl

Posted on December 23rd, 2010 in Click! Pics for folk, Curl Curl, Top stories.

Spent close to an hour taking snaps down at Curl Curl this morning. Waves weren’t exactly spectacular, being a bit on the fat and slow side thanks to the high tide and weakening south east wind swell. But the forecast wind didn’t turn up, so the 20-30 people splashing around on the banks in the middle of the beach were at least getting glassy lumps.

After I ran out of memory cards, I headed for home to process the pics and get them online.

this is a picture from my galleries.

And here is some more text to find out how much makes it to the other side, so to speak.

Please ignore all this testing junk. It will disappear when I’ve finished messing about.

PICS: Saturday morning cooking at Cooks

Posted on July 24th, 2010 in Click! Pics for folk, Cooks Tce, Top stories.

Looked around for somewhere to photograph on Saturday morning before it clouded over and ended up tramping down to the sands of Cooks Terrace. A crew was having a lash at the heavily shutting down conditions. Every now and then a wave would come through so I popped off a few frames with a Canon 5D MKII and a Nikon D90. As usual, click on the image and you’ll be taken to a full size version. To make it yours, look for the “add to cart” link at the top when you get there.

After getting my share of waves in the morning, I grabbed the Canon 5D MK II and the 100-400mm for some shooting off the rocks at Dee Why point. And here’s a gallery of the snaps I got of people having fun on Sydney’s northern beaches on a winter’s day…

PICS: Queenscliff, Freshy, South Curly Friday arvo.

When the lighting is as good as it was this afternoon, a photographer finds it very hard to resist getting out and about with a camera. Yours truly went first to Manly on the off chance the touch of east in the swell was letting it get into the north end of the famous stretch. And sure enough, there were clean little offshore sets for the moderate size crew at the Queenscliff end. I shot for about half an hour, so if you happen to have been in the water there between about 1:30 and 2:00 pm, check back on Saturday for the gallery of shots I came back with.

Next stop on my afternoon shooting expedition was Freshy. As usual the numbers weren’t on the same scale as Manly, but there was a healthy crew enjoying the unnaturally warm water and sunny offshore afternoon. Sets were a touch bigger too. Quality was similar to Manly as well. I shot from about 2:25 to 2:45 pm before deciding to head around the corner to see what was happening at Curly.

There was a sizable crew on the chest to head high plus offshore waves at south Curly. Looked like people were having fun, despite the somewhat variable quality of the peaks. It looks as though there’s some deep water between the outside peaks and the beach because many waves started out looking good before they kind of fatted out on the inside.  I set up just to the north of the main peak and took pictures from about 3:00 to 3:30 pm.

PICS: Dee Why Sunday morning 6/6/10

Posted on June 6th, 2010 in Click! Pics for folk, Dee Why, Top stories.

Although the rains would return later in the day, I managed to zip down to the beach this morning and get a few shots of the action at Dee Why. I shot the peak near the SLSC from just up the beach for about an hour. Then I went around to Curly and got a couple more snaps at the south end… as usual, if you see a picture you want, just double click on it to see the larger version on my gallery site. To purchase it without the watermark, click on the add to cart button top left when you get there.
