The Weekend Windup In Byron Bay May 8th 2009
Posted on May 9th, 2009 in Byron, Comment, Cool Picks, Editor's picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports, weird surf.Welcome to the In Byron Bay Today Weekend Windup. it’s been pretty busy up here this week, not much swell, but last weeks big ocean swim, a QLD long weekend, The Byron Bay Malibu Classic and the Byron triathlon. No wonder the joint is packed right now. But it’s all about raising bucks for charity so it’s cool. Speaking of cool, our mate Ron bolted his spare foot onto the nose of his stick. Entered the Byron Classic and demanded he be scored a hang five each wave. There’s nothing like an irreverent amputee. He also reckons if you’re complaining about other surfers, your surfing must not be good enough to keep you entertained, and that you’re taking the joy of surfing as a right not as the gift it is. we say Hear, hear to that Ron.
As for the surf; it’s been small folks, but there are a few little wedgy peaks around if you make an effort to go look for them. Word has it we may see some more swell soon. But either way who could complain, if you’re lucky enough to find yourself, In Byron Bay Today.
The way it was In Byron Bay April 21st 2009
Posted on April 22nd, 2009 in Byron, Comment, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, News Stories, Surf Reports.Well the wind backed off just a little In Byron Bay Today, it rained pretty heavily most of the morning then cleared to patchy rain by the afternoon. BTW did anyone hear that acording to Forbes Traveller Magazine, Byron Bay is one of the world’s 25 sexiest beaches
. Now what exactly is that supposed to mean? Byron’s a town not a beach, and what is it exactly that’s sexy about it? yeah yeah I know Delilah from Kazakstan last march sometime. Anyway if it’s sexy you want just look how deep it got in some of the barrels the bay turned on today. Now here’s the drum, winter is descending on us rapidly. The sand banks are changing, this is normal for this time of year. However it’s always anyone’s guess where the new banks will settle. We’re not going to tell you where they are. But we will tell you this, you won’t find them by relying on the ‘you know who cameras pointing at the, you know what’. One of the banks has been discovered and is getting more crowded each day. But there are at least five more that are going unridden. So get out there and look people, because there are barrels going begging In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay April Fools day 09

It was a sun kissed wave feast In Byron Bay Today. Ok I’ll admit it, that’s a radical exaggeration. There was plenty of swell, sun and clear warm water, which kept most folks happy. The massive swell that everyone was expecting didn’t really stretch this far, nor did the storm that was predicted. Although as I sit here in the wee hours writing this I gotta say, it’s blowing a gale outside right now, and I can hear the swell jacking right now. So who knows what tomorrow may bring. We did see a surge in wave heights in the morning. But by lunchtime it was dropping steadily. The only spot that anyone seemed interested in, was actually not that good. The banks are a bit wierd right now, got heaps of holes etc. Can’t say I understand it. Right now, Greenmount’s got cracking banks and is heaps less crowded than Byron. Which begs the question, why is the carpark full of blokes from the Gold Coast? Sure I love it here which is why I live here. But I wouldn’t do a 100 km round trip to surf a wave that’s more crowded and inferior to the waves on my doorstep. I mean that’s just silly. I dunno maybe I’m missing something, I understand it when we have banks and they don’t, but when it’s reversed it makes no sense to me. Be that as it may, for those that looked, there were plenty of uncrowded waves to be had elsewhere other than the Pass In Byron Bay Today.
A grey arvo
Posted on July 24th, 2008 in Comment, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Been cold, breezy and grey all day around Sydney. A good day to be stuck inside working – as I’m sure many of you have been!
Just climbed up for a quick scan of the conditions and thought I might as well grab a snap for you on the way through. I think there were maybe two or three in the water at Dee Why from what I could tell. The grey, junky conditions will have put off lots of folks. And that leaves it to the dedicated few who can look at a messy ocean and see all the potential little sections, momentary pockets, brief flashes of juice… that lesser mortals miss altogether. Looking at the world through stoke-coloured glasses… Good on ‘em I say!
Oo.. looky, the Goat’s posted a forecast too…
How much would carbon tax add to price of petrol
Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Comment, Environment.‘Burning one litre of Petrol releases 2.36 kg of CO2 (under the ‘perfect’ fuel/air mixture). I know this sounds unreasonable when one litre of petrol weighs around 0.75 kg, but the majority (over 70%) of the CO2 weight is made up of the oxygen which is consumed from the air and does not originate from the petrol.’ ref.
Wikipedia entry on carbon trading mechanisms
Indicative pricing: at AUD30 per tonne, petrol would increase by
1 tonne of petrol = 1333 litres
1333 litres of petrol produces 3467 kg of CO2 which, at AUD30/t = AUD104
So, AUD104 divided by 1333 = AUD0.08 extra per litre.
