Twas a bit of a mixed bag, In Byron Bay Today. We had warm patches with light northerly winds. But when the sun popped behind a cloud, it quickly got cold. There’s still a fair bit of swell hanging around. It’s been dropping each day but there’s plenty of waves. Now the word around town this week is that heaps cancelled their holidays at the very last minute because they heard Byron was going to have crappy weather. This would explain why the surf has been so uncrowded this week. But I haven’t got a clue where they got their info from. Fact is the weather has been stunning and the surf has been pretty joyous too. Sometimes I suspect unless it’s actually a warning about storms, floods or fire. It’s best to just take it as it comes, you can go insane trying to plan life around weather forecasts. I know I’ve tried, went completely bonkers. These days I leave the weather up to Huey and try to work in with it. After all, Huey does what Huey does regardless of what the meteorologists say. It’s the way it’s always been and it’s the way it’ll probably stay. For those who cancel bzzzz wrong answer In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay Today Sunday July 5th 2009
Posted on July 6th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. We’re baaaaaaack, not that we ever left. But after six straight days of sifting through the most popular shots of the last six months, I must say it was really nice be out of the office, In Byron Bay Today. We’ve got a very typical northcoast winter weather pattern at the moment. Beautiful clear & cold sunny mornings with westerly winds and very, very, very south swell. In fact it’s so damned southerly that it’s almost running out to sea. The end result being we are all sorely teased with the promise of waves, yet all we get is very small lines coming into the bay instead. But hey what can you do? Pull out the log of course and go for a slide. it’s silly time. There’s not much point in grumbling about lack of surf. Better to just make the best of what we got. Now despite the lack of swell it was a stunner of a day. The sun was out; it was actually warm too, if you got out of the morning wind. And then there was that sunset! Seriouisly folks it could have made a hard bloke weep; I’ve seen some stunners, but the sunset was an absolute mind blower, In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay Today July 03 / 09 + Most pop April o9
Posted on July 4th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Editor's picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.Good God Man, was it flat today or what? That must have been the smallest day of the year so far In Byron Bay Today. Beautiful weather, but as close to zero swell as it gets. There were a few tiny lines around the ocean side for a desperado logger session. But that’s about it, good thing we’ve got the ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron Bay Today’ for April 09. Because I got to tell you there were some pretty inspirational moments that month, yes indeed. There was solid swell and some interesting types around town too. Now we all knew that Danny Wills was gonna popup as the number one shot for april. I mean really who else could it have been? Out of the gloom he pulls this stonking great 5 second barrel only to pop out, paddle out and stroke back into another. It was a ghty session with real people paddling in to real waves None of this tow silliness. Anyway Now we’re coming to the end of our most popular Byron images series. We’ve got one more to go for May. Then it’s back to business as usual with our updates. There will also be some extra stuff coming in the site very soon. But you’ll have to wait and see where we’re going with that. In mean time we hope enjoy April’s most popular. Don’t miss tomorrow’s ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron Bay Today’ for May 09. Because it’s bound to be interesting as that’s when all the storm carnage went down.
Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Windup June 27th 2009
Posted on June 28th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Stuff for free, Surf Reports.Ok here’s the Weekend Windup. Well what an odd week it’s been in Byron bay. Sunday was washed away with torrential rain, by Tuesday it was fine and sunny with joyous offshore barrels. Then the rest of the week has seen an eerie stillness with violet grey skies. The waves have been strange too, there’s been twisting cross ups and the banks are on the move again. But there were some damned fine barrels to be had at times. This week we went to check on the custom glassing of the In Byron Bay Today subscriber’s lucky draw Bob Brown board that’s been won by S. Mackay. It’s looking real nice too, hmm I’m sorely tempted to hang on to it for myself, but no. We’ll have a little presentation next week when the board’s finished and introduce you all to the bloke that won. Speaking of which, don’t forget we’ll be doing it all again sometime this yearlong or shortboard choice is yours. If you’re not a subscriber you can’t win, it’s free to subscribe so don’t be shy. Byron Bay Today June 23rd 2009
Posted on June 24th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It started of pissing down rain & lumpy In Byron Bay Today. But the change caught up with us mid morning. The sun came out to play and the wind turned offshore, the waves were hollow and plentiful and whales frolicked off the cape. So couldn’t really ask for more? Wherever we went the topic of conversation was the same. ‘Isn’t it great to see the sun and just how good are these waves?’ Now the points weren’t liking the east swell so much in fact they were crap, but the beachies another story to tell. Those in the know scored as there were barrels a plenty to be had, yet it wasn’t for the faint hearted. That east swell’s got punch in it and the sweep’s like a river in flood. It’s not for the inexperienced or backpacker crew, they’d be would wise to sit and watch. Maybe take time off and watch others take the drops. But for those with the experience and fitness levels Byron’s beachies were on fire. We headed out and shot several different spots, we got so many beautiful shots it was bloody hard to edit it down to twenty. As usual we won’t be saying where we shot or where we surfed. But we will tell you this much, you really want to get out and look a little more closely, In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Windup
Posted on June 21st, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.Welcome to In Byron Bay’s Today Weekend Windup. We had quite a quiet one in the old town this past week. There were waves but not much to get all wound up about. There’s been heaps of logs sessions and some beautiful days. And just out of twon we’ve been getting some waves with enough juice for the little whiteboard set. But all in all it’s beena tad junky for waves. There has been many humpbacks which is kind cool watching breach nearby. But as far as good surf goes, it’s been average. However I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather do average than, In Byron Bay Today.
Byron Bay June 11th 2009
Posted on June 12th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports, Weather.Congratulations, it’s bouncing baby south swell, yes folks the new swell arrived without any complications In Byron Bay Today. Well actually it started to arrive yesterday, which just proves I wasn’t mad, well at least I wasn’t mad yesterday. But who knows what the future holds. The new swell arrived and the town is all abuzz again. Now some describe Byron as a new age hippy retreat. Others think of it as a party town. Then there’s the rich and shameless who think of Byron as the new must go hep scene. Call it what you like, but those who have been here long enough will tell you. Byron is a surfing town, when the swells dead so is the town. When the sea comes to life, the bay begins to pulse to the rhythm of the ocean. You can feel it as you drive through town. The energy is almost palpable when there are waves. Traffic increases, people get speedy and all the crew are talking in hushed tones about where it may be working today. So here we are, it’s freezing, the sun is out and there’s new southerly swell lines sweeping past the cape. It brings energy, change and a hint of promise to all, In Byron Bay Today.
