Most Popular March 2012, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on April 9th, 2012 in Byron, Local Colour.

It’s time to take a look back to the most popular shots for the month of March 2012, in Byron Bay today. This year March began as a month already straining under the weight of much expectation. The last two months of summer had been pretty lame to say the least, and that’s putting it nicely. Summer this year was not known as The Endless Bummer, for no reason. Waves and good sand were in very short supply and everyone in the bay was pinning their hopes on a new beginning with the coming of autumn. Thankfully Huey did not disappoint. March soon turned on the goods with much better banks, some decent swell and clean conditions as well. As the month rolled on things went from strength to strength. It never really got huge, but it did get consistent. And so it was that the wave starved crew of Byron finally began to get their fill, In Byron Bay Today.

If You Knew, In Byron Bay Today.

So yeah it did rain on and off all day and that howling southerly still held sway, but if you knew where to look, it was on, in Byron Bay today. It wasn’t happening everywhere, and a little footwork was needed at times. But those who looked a little harder through the grey wind driven rain were well rewarded for the efforts, In Byron Bay Today.

Goodbye Hello, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on March 1st, 2012 in Byron, Local Colour.

As we say farewell to a, let’s face it, mercilessly overcrowded and seriously under surfed summer, in Byron bay today. We say a big hello to a new autumn and the hope that Huey sends more waves and perhaps some slightly saner crowd sizes in the bay. Speaking of new things, we’ve got a few new things going on too. This week sees the start of our photo column in The Byron Shire News. Whoever makes it in each week remains top secret so you’ll need to open the paper and check. Also on the 1st of March we are officially launching the Bear Surfboards collaboration with Kyu p Designs (pronounced Q-P). The boards are now in stock at the Bear Factory showroom, you can check them out at 1/29 Acacia Street, Byron Bay Industrial Estate. Or just visit the new Kyu p Designs website by clicking here. We’ve deliberately taken our time bringing these boards to fruition; after all, all seriously good things take more than just a little time, In Byron Bay Today.

Most Popular January 2011, In Byron Bay Today.

Well we could say we’re overdue for a best of update, in Byron Bay today. But that would be dishonest; fact is there was simply little more than tiny wind slop available today. So rather than shoot we decided check through our stats and pull up the most popular images that were clicked on the most for January 2012. Now it wasn’t exactly a riveting month for waves. There were a lot of onshore winds, sad excuses for sand banks after the Christmas storms; I mean really summer hasn’t really turned it on this year in the bay. But, as we always say, there is usually something on offer for those who look hard enough in the bay. So this most popular photos update is a testament to those who made the effort to look just a little harder and perhaps a little longer. They are the ones that scored in January 2012, In Byron Bay Today.

The Green Room Update, In Byron Bay Today.

So yeah what are we doing working when we’re meant to be on holidays, in Byron Bay today? Well, it’s simple really. We were just trawling through the archives of the site and noticed how many really good sessions there were for barrels in the bay last year. Now I got a thing for shooting barrels, in fact anyone who’s known me long enough would remember that I was once fanatical about hunting down tubes. Of course that was before I got old and crusty with joints that refuse to work, but I digress. I had to make the change from looking at them from the inside. To digging every excruciatingly beautiful moment from the outside, I’m fussy about barrels. I like to see people set them up properly, I like to see good timing, stalls where appropriate, and length of time inside. In fact I dig it so much that it makes me feel like screaming in frustration when I see a good barrel wasted for a lame off the top instead. But hey that’s just me. So I thought I’d share some of the moments that put a big smile on my face while shooting them in the bay. Not all of them were that big or that perfect. But every one of these was well timed and gave me just as much stoke as those getting slotted, because I always pull in mentally with them while shooting, In Byron Bay Today.

Ooops 2012, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on January 3rd, 2012 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour.

So there we have it, it’s done, and the silly season is officially over. Now it’s time for the serious business of having some fun in the sun, in Byron Bay today. We decided that seeing as there was so much tragedy around the globe last year, we’d like to start the year with a bit of a giggle. Let’s face it when it comes to surfing wipeouts are often pretty funny; nobody makes it all the time, that’s a fact. No matter how cool, groovy, talented or legendary they may be. Everyone comes unstuck at sometime. To think otherwise is to forget the fact that out there in the water, Huey runs the show. Some people reckon we should never publish the wipeout shots. Especially of those who are really good, they say it damages reputations. When I first heard that one, I had to refrain from laughing out loud. Let’s put it this way. It’s really important to be able to laugh at ourselves, it’s healthy. So in the tradition of those old 70’s surf movies that always dedicated a segment to wipeouts, here’s a few oops moments to welcome in 2012 in the bay. Just a short note folks, we’re sort of on our summer break right now, but we’ll continue to bring you some best of updates and other bits and pieces until we start shooting live again on Sunday Jan 8. Here’s hoping 2012 is a peaceful year to you all and thank you for being a part of In Byron Bay Today.

Most Popular November 2012, In Byron Bay Today.

Well as most may have guessed we’ve been having a little bit of a Christmas break here in Byron Bay today. Of course Huey having a great sense of humour decided to hit us with the first decent sized swell we’ve seen for months the day after we went on holidays. Hmm what a dilemma do we can it and go shoot? Well I actually went out looking several times, but quickly realised that although the swell was solid it was also super lumpy and really not turning on that many quality waves. So needless to say our little siesta continues. Meanwhile as always at this time of year, we’ll be finishing up the most popular photos updates for the final months of the year. We both hope you enjoyed your Christmas and also enjoy trawling through the most popular photos we published in November 2011. We’ll have more for December up and live real soon, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on October 16th, 2011 in Byron, Good causes, Local Colour, Surf culture, surf photography.

Yes folks its true there was not a lot happening over the last week in Byron Bay. But there are some events that are well worth taking note of for next Saturday the 22nd in the bay. For those into photography and music, there will be an exhibition up at The Top Shop. Some featured shutter bugs will be George Greenough, Matty Yates & Justin Crawford, with live music by Josh Hamilton from 11am till1pm. Also on the same day at the Byron Bay Community centre. Andrew Wells from Grown surfboards will be teaching his handicraft in a wooden surfboard workshop. This will happen between 4-5pm you don’t want t miss that. Last but certainly no least, Saturday the 22nd is the Byron Breast Cancer Day running at Railway Park in town from 10am till 2pm. There will be some entertainment, music, talks Yoga etc. This is an important charity fundraising event. To be honest it’s probably going to need some extra support, so if you can get on over to it as well, while all the other exciting stuff is going on, that would be way cool, In Byron Bay Today.
