I guess its not flat flat
Posted on May 22nd, 2012 in Manly.I would have said its flat if it wasn’t for the keen bunch of longboarders and a few crazy shortboarders trying to prove me wrong. Some were even running down to paddle out. I guess its a killer day and always nicer to be floating around than doing what other people do. High tide is 9:04am
Grey and Small Early
Posted on May 21st, 2012 in Manly. It was dark, grey and tiny at dawn at Manly. Longboard required for the 1ft sets. If I had time I’d head to a South facing spot to milk something more rideable out of it.Wind is Westerly but high tide is the enemy at 8:25am. Good luck.
Crept Down
Posted on May 17th, 2012 in Manly.Swell has crept down to only 2-3ft now. 5:42am high means a bit fat and backwashy. There’s a couple of shoulders at the end of closeouts mid beach and sth ends but pretty crowded considering. Should get better for a moment as tides drops but if you know somewhere that was good yesterday go there
Dropped
Posted on May 16th, 2012 in Manly.Swell dropped to around shoulder high along the beach an the increased number of longboarders back out to cement the drop in size. The usual cold offshore wind and the odd shoulder but I didn’t see too many exciting ones. Maybe some bigger and better ones elsewhere.
Whales
Posted on May 15th, 2012 in Manly.Saw my first migrating whale of the year today but dont need that to remind me of winter with that freezing wind! Surf has dropped but still some solid sets. A bit of waiting required and good positioning are rewarded with some good looking overhead shoulders. Even looked like deadmans had a couple but I gotta get myself a proper camera and lense to prove it from here. Sunny, offfshore and pumping. Go surfin!
Dead South
Posted on May 14th, 2012 in Manly, Surf Reports. The solid dead sth swell finally arrived overnight. Its a good 4-5ft at the Queenscliff end and small at the Manly end. Middle peak has a bit of shape and a crew. There a whole lot more going past and south bombies and reefs will be solid and pumping.
Tidy the Garage
Posted on May 12th, 2012 in Manly.Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight today. Bring your log, longboard, SUP or canoe. Micro SE swell so maybe somewhere else might suck in a touch more. Even the WCT in RIO is havin a lay day. I’m gonna tidy the garage.
Shin slappers
Posted on May 11th, 2012 in Manly.Shin slapping stuff on another beautiful morning. Maybe one of the “south magnets” with suck in something a tiny bit more rideable. High tide just before 1pm might push a touch more as it comes in too. Desperate stuff though.
If only more swell
Posted on May 10th, 2012 in Manly.Epic morning but barely 2 foot of East swell shutting down on the low tide banks early. Maybe elsewhere will have better shape or could be a window of opportunity towards the 11:52am high tide. Just an all round nice day to float in the warm water! Maybe take your longboard.
Magic Monday
Posted on May 7th, 2012 in Manly.Pretty darn good early. 4ft+ sets with some nice hollow ones. Not sure what the 9am high will do but it should keep breaking through and without yesterdays mad angry crowd on it you should have some good fun. Get out there if you can
