ABOUT THIS PROJECT
In May 2000, RealSurf asked its visitors to name the five best surf spots in Australia. Hundreds replied and the result is a list of 200 spots (with a couple joke nominations for fun).

The way it worked was simple: a person's first choice received 5 points, their second choice got 4 points, and so on.

So remember when you're looking down the list, each and every name was a place someone thought should rank in Australia's top five surf spots. Apart from anything else, it just shows how lucky Australian surfers are to have so many high quality waves to choose from!

You'll notice that some of the names are in bold. These are spots covered by RealSurf's reporters. In the future, we may turn some names into hotlinks which will take a visitor to a spot-specific page with appropriate links, gallery of pictures, stories and so on.
