Beautiful morning along the beaches

Posted by: on April 17th, 2010

Hello Friends,

An incoming tide this morning combined with light breezes and a little SE swell turned the lights on at Dee Why for the early risers. Nothing spectacular, but the bomb sets were into the shoulder high range at the point. The beach was lining up and shutting down on most of the bigger ones. Outlook is for the breeze to get around to the easterly quarters later, so this morning is primetime. Busy of course and the swell seems fairly setty, so the lulls may be a factor.

Swell is coming in from the SSE. It’s averaging around 1.5 metres at sea with a respectable 11 second average period. There’s the odd 14 second period set in the mix, so if you’re in the right spot at the right time this morning, it should be possible to connect with some juice.

Outlook is for the swell energy to gradually fade as we head into the new week. In fact on the latest reckoning, this morning at south swell spots is possibly as good as it’ll get between now and next weekend. Hope those models are being too pessimistic!

Get out there, have a great day and I’ll see if I can find another picture or two as the day unfolds.

Arvo update

Hello Friends,

Went for my first surf since getting back from California. Lotsa folks along the Longy to Dee Why stretch when we arrived. Decided to head out to the bombies as they looked like less work than the shorey action elsewhere along the beach. Not the cleanest or best swell, but water’s a touch milder, the breeze was light and you could get the odd chest high plus set wave. Not a particularly memorable go out, but glad I got in the water.

Here are a couple pics…
