Checkin’ it out Dee Why and Curl Curl

Technology and your correspondent have a problematic relationship. This should have been online an hour ago, but the touchpad on my notebook decided to stop working… oh well.

Looks like there could be a bit of fun here on Saturday

After looking at Northy, I had a quick squizz at Long Reef. Wind was coming straight into it and there didn’t really seem to be much of anything going on there at all. Nothing much going on at the bombies, and pretty junky and flabby on the little ones coming in near the Lugga. Basically a write-off; no cars in the carpark to second the motion. Got a pic of a banner hanging up at the entrance to the carpark.

So, it was off down to Dee Why for a bit of squizz.

Not looking too good at this point... but the rock was avoided in the end.

The tide was doing the point no favours. It was extremely inconsistent and when they came through, sets were practically on the rocks. A few bods were out having a go, and good on ’em, but it really looked as though it was better over in the beachy. I never did get a shot of anyone surfing the point, but I did get a picture of a SUP rider going perilously close to the rocks. And later, Rob sent me a pic of someone on a wave.

3-4 bucks a week is all it costs Carlos to get to the beach.

Saw a guy on a scooter with his board checking it out. Asked if I could take his picture and he said no probs. His name’s Carlos and he reckons the bike costs him about $3-4 for petrol every week.

Headed over the hill to check the mighty Curly. The wind wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, but the quality was very similar to Dee Why – ie long lulls, and sloppy and weak waves, punctuated every once in awhile by a bigger set. About the most interesting thing I saw was this guy catching sets right in front of the rocks off the end of the pool at the south end.

Looking good for 0.5 sec at south Curly.

Generally lacklustre, but as usual, if you're in the right spot...
