Moment of Sunday morning sunshine

Hello Friends,

The forecast says there’s still a 30% chance of a shower or two, but for the early risers in Sydney skies were sunny and there was a small SSE wind swell coming in. Size was around the waist high mark at Dee Why and there were quite a few folks in the water chasing the relatively glassy little offerings. Wind is set to be out of the northern quarters and light for the front end of the day. As we get into the afternoon hours it’s expected to pick up and be pushing along at 15-20 kts by evening. The forecast is calling for the swell to be east at about a metre, but the first data from the MHL buoy this morning shows it’s a bit bigger than that and still coming mainly from the SSE. That should mean more activity of interest in the north corners this morning.

As reported yesterday, there are a couple Sydney paddleouts for Andy Irons today. North Maroubra’s ceremony kicks off from noon at the northern end of the beach and up at North Av, things get going from about 3pm.

Outlook remains Springy for our part of the world. From the look of the models, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Bendalong or Ballina or somewhere in between. There’s just not much in prospect. Best shot will be in the mornings before the wind hacks into the little grovel-able lumps. As far as Sydney’s concerned, the most hopeful prospects are likely to be at spots that pick up anything with an east component. Mid-week currently looks about the best of a sorry lot. As usual under such circumstances, I hope to be proven completely wrong (in a good way!).
