"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Rough grey cool afternoon, but waves for the keen

The swell built up a little more during the day so that by 6pm it was averaging around 3.5m. Although it was still straight south, the fact that the period also pushed up from around 8-9 sec this morning to 10-14 sec this afternoon saw much more energy start to bend in to the protected corners. Wind was 20-25kts south too, so that also helped get the swell in. But that much wind also meant that the large and keen crowd in the corner and at the point at Dee Why were contending with messy conditions. The leaden skies and cool temps ensured that there weren’t too many people braving it in boardies.

It looks to me as though the swell hit its peak around midday and is now beginning to drop back a bit. The models have the dropping trend continuing overnight to maybe 1.5-2m tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, Sunday’s wind call is for 15-20 kts of south to SE gradually settling into SE later. So I’m thinking it may not be too flash – particularly when that wind is SE.

First tide tomorrow is a low at around 0910. So, maybe, if the wind drops right off, the early risers might score some fun ones under the dark grey skies.

Have a great evening!
