Micro in Sydney, but Fanning world champ

Fanning wins the title

Hello Friends,

Pretty good timing my end. Had just logged in to get started on the report, flicked on the Pipe masters only a minute or two before Mick Fanning won the World Title with a spectacular set wave. Nice acceptance speech too. Guy seems like a real gentleman.

Meanwhile, back in Dee Why the bombs are struggling to make knee high. Not much wind about before 0900 but the forecast is calling for S-SE 10-15kts later. We have 6-second period ESE wind swell. Allegedly it’s two metres at sea, but you won’t be seeing anything remotely approximating that today.

Outlook for the rest of the week remains summery – ie, little knee to knee plus grovellers at exposed spots first up. Some of the modelling is showing interesting development way off to the north of us late next week. No indication of energy getting down this way, but it’s the kind of increase in activity we like to see.

Tide’s high at 0640 and then low again at 1320.

Have yourself a top old Sunday and maybe watch the Pipe masters to see who wins. Conditions are outstanding there.

Forecast issued at 4:10 am EDT on Sunday 15 December 2013.
