Little waves for the first day of 2014

Little soft ones

Bomb set

Happy New Year Friends,

Swell’s faded overnight, but I did see at least one set wave in the shoulder high range at Dee Why around 0930. According to the MHL data, at 0600 the main swell energy was coming out of the southeast at about 9 seconds apart. Average size out at sea was 1.5 metres. For Dee Why still feeling the effects of a high tide at 0740, this was translating into waist to chest with the odd bigger one. Wind was out of the NE at 10-15 kts as of 1000, but the Bureau has posted strong wind warnings for Sydney coastal waters for today and tomorrow. The NE’r should ramp up into the 25-30 kt range by late afternoon today and tomorrow morning they expect it to be out of the north at 20-30 kts ahead of a 15-25kt south change at midday.

The plan is to hit it asap I’d say because that wind will be blasting into a declining and marginal southerly swell.

Long range outlook is for mostly marginal, mostly south wind swell into the new week. At least some of the modelling is projecting something more substantial from the south for us mid-next week, and the very long range call is still suggesting a run of potentially fun size east energy mid-month.

Get out there, have some fun and keep on smilin’!
