Swell has come back up

Hello Friends,

Swell faded away yesterday evening, but overnight it’s come back up and as of 0600 the MHL Sydney buoy was detecting 2.3 metres of 10-sec south swell. As of 0745 the wind was out of the SW at 8-10 kts, but the Bureau says we can expect it to be southerly most of the day and getting up to 15-20 kts.

There were only a few people in the water as the morning got started in Dee Why. The beachy was bigger and a bit more consistent than the point, but the shutdown percentage continues to be very high. Over at the point the high tide (0825) was fattening ’em out, but on take off at the top of the point wave faces were into the head high and a bit range.

The Bureau’s swell modelling predicts that the energy level will increase across the day and they’ve posted a hazardous surf warning for today and tomorrow. And the southerly will be hammering along right through to the end of the week. Bah. The early will obviously be the best hope.

Have yourself a great Monday, and stay happy!

Weather Situation

A southerly change associated with a cold front crossing the southern Tasman Sea has moved up the New South Wales coast as a strong, slow-moving high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge into western New South Wales. The high is expected to move near the Bass Strait during Thursday maintaining the ridge to the north coast.
