"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Clear skies and flat seas

Hello Friends,

Went for a picture run ahead of this morning’s radio spot on 702 ABC. As expected the ocean looks like a lake. I did see an ankle high wave caught at North Narrabeen, but around at Dee Why there was no chance of replicating that feat. So, no surf for us today, sadly.

To put some numbers on it, at 0500 the Sydney region MHL buoy was detecting only 0.7 m of extremely feeble 6-second SSE (160°) wind bump offshore. Just before the sun came over the horizon, wind was 7-10 kts from the NW. Tide was a very low 0.2 m at 0415 and will reach a 1.5 m high at 1020.
Outlook is for the abject flatness to persist all weekend as powering westerlies smash the tiny south bump across the next 48 hours. And then, on Monday the wind is set to go from west to SW but not to back off while at the same time a fresh south pulse tries to get to us. As noted in the Goat’s outlook, it’s an open question as to how much energy will actually make it to the south magnets by Monday afternoon. By Tuesday the wind is forecast to be coming from the south at 25-30 kts as the swell peaks in the 3-4 metre range with a 10 sec period. Right now it looks as though we’ll be waiting until around Thursday for the southerly to blow itself out and for conditions to settle into something more approachable…
Have a great Saturday everyone!

Weather Situation
A series of cold fronts are crossing southeastern Australia as a low pressure system slowly moves to the south of Tasmania. Winds will tend south to southwesterly over the weekend and strengthen on Monday as the low moves into the Tasman Sea. By the middle of next week, winds are expected to ease as the low moves closer to New Zealand.
