Junky and bumpy but not flat

Hello Friends,

Another rather murky start to the day at Dee Why. Surf conditions weren’t too imteresting, but if you’re keen, there are junky waist plus bumps to be found. Yesterday’s rain has made water quality dicey from Bungan to Manly according to Beachwatch, so if you have any fresh cuts or scratches, you might want to avoid exposure to the now abundant microbes for what is really pretty marginal surf.
As of 0800 wind was NNE 8-13 kts at North Head. Local weather stations at Collaroy were showing closer to 20kts NNE. The MHL buoy report from 0500 showed a 2.1 metre combo of NE and S south swell with a period of about 7 seconds. It should bump up a little once the wind gets into the 20-30 kt range from the NE this afternoon. But quality… and water… yeah, not the best.
Looking at this morning’s run of the swell models, outlook is for a gradual decline in size into the waist minus range as the week unfolds. The most optimistic model was predicting pretty good conditions for Friday at spots that like dead south. Out beyond that, the speculations about the Christmas week currently are thinking we’ll have windy conditions with short period and small waves.
Have yourself a good Sunday and keep on smilin’!

Weather Situation
A broad trough of low pressure lies over inland New South Wales, while a high is situated near New New Zealand, directing fresh to strong northeasterly winds along most coastal areas. Later today the low the trough is expected to cross southern parts of the coast, before continuing to central areas on Monday. This trough is likely to linger about central waters for the following day or two, while a high over the Tasman Sea maintains a ridge towards the northern coast.
