Windswell lines of minimal consequence

Hello Friends,

Lots of packed together but tiny NE wind bump lines coming in this morning. Had a look at Collaroy where the Council is building the new seawall and surf conditions were prettily offshore but microscopic. Then visited Longy to confirm the tininess situation. There were actually a couple of people in the water, but sets were struggling to make waist high on the biggest ones near the lagoon. Down the beach toward Dee Why and up at the Bombies, it was just too small to really surf in any meaningful way. Beautiful, if chilly and breezy, morning out there.

The MHL buoy shows that the primary swell energy direction shifted overnight from NE to SE. Swell height at sea off Sydney was 1.6 metres from 145° at 8 seconds as of 0500. Wind at 0710 was 10-15 kts from the NNW at North Head. Ocean temp was on 18C. First tide of the daylight hours was a 1.4m high at 1035.

While today doesn’t look too exciting wavewise, some of the models are predicting a bump up into the possibly surfable range for Tuesday and Wednesday and then on Thursday they’re all showing a potentially major south pulse (as in 3-4 metres at 14 seconds) on Thursday into Friday – with stiff SW wind.

So, that could be interesting…

Workers appear to be stacking rocks on top of the temporary berm – in anticipation of Thursday?
The new seawall works well underway. What will happen if the swell gets big on Thursday?
Nice morning for a coffee and a stroll at Dee Why

Weather Situation

A cold front over the state’s northeast will move out to sea by the afternoon. In its wake a slow moving high pressure system will move across the Bight bringing a strong west to southwesterly flow across the south of the state through to mid-week.
