The Goat’s Surf Forecast

Surf forecast issued Thursday 2 April 2020

When life gives you lemons… make lemonade.

First, here are some lemons for us to suck on>>>

From NSW Health

“Help stop the spread of COVID-19

From 31 March 2020you must stay at home, unless you are going to

  • work and education, where you can’t work remotely
  • shop for food and essentials
  • medical needs or the care of others
  • exercise.

Existing rules around 10 people at funerals and 5 people at weddings still apply.

  • If you go out, stay 1.5 metres away from other people at all times.
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home.

Do not gather in public with more than 2 people except

  • for members of the same household
  • where the gathering is essential for work or education.

These new restrictions are legally enforceable.

Anyone could spread the virus, even without knowing.

Together we can help stop the spread of COVID-19.”

COVID-19 is not to be taken lightly and the rules are for our own good health. My daughter knows two young people, one in Australia, one in the US, who are currently suffering from coronavirus. You don’t want to get it!

We should all have a think about what the rules might mean for us – adults and kids – when say we pull up at beach carparks, consider paddling out to join a crew at a crowded spot and conditions on the beach itself on the next good surf day or nice day for the beach>>> over the next three months …at least>>>

There’s not much point considering technicalities of which beaches are closed and which aren’t. If any beach gets too crowded they will be closed – as Palm Beach has been twice already, Manly, Freshie, Curlie, DY, Long Reef etc. on sunny weekends.

Here’s a tip: If you’re heading for any beach and you’re in traffic, just turn around and go home.

So what’s the lemonade??

If you leave your car out tonight and tomorrow you’ll get a free carwash! 🙂

Yeah, I know. It’s not the same as getting in the water yourself – which you still can do for exercise in accordance with the above. But if it all gets too hard trying to do the right thing, remember it is a “temporary” phase, and it will pass in Australia sometime. Remember when you had to stay out of the surf for an extended period say after an injury or an operation? You had to stay out of the surf, or slow down, or not do certain things to get better then. You might have to do something similar now, just to stay healthy.

Most of us will be home for quite a while so it might be a good idea to start thinking about getting out your favourite surf movies for the 63rd rerun. Maybe starting with the classic Endless Summer and follow up with Endless Summer 2 ! Tell a mate to watch it at their place too and have a video chat about great surfs and what you’re going to do when it’s safe.

The power of movies is amazing.. A friend of mine saw the original Endless Summer one weekend when it was first released. Back at work on Monday he was down at Circular Quay in his lunch break, saw a ship with “Cape Town” on the back of it. This was in the days before cheap plane travel. He booked a passenger ticket on the ship to South Africa on the spot, went back to work and quit his job… and set off in search of the mythical waves of Cape St Francis!

No one can stop you dreaming about great surf 🙂

Friday: around 1 metre or so North East

Saturday: somewhere in the 1-2 metre range North East

Sunday: around 1 metre North East

Monday: around 1 metre East

Tuesday: in the 1-2 metre range dead South

Wednesday: dittoish

Thursday: starting to come up more from dead South

Just the basics… don’t want you to get overexcited about nothing surf 🙂

Stay healthy
