Rainy and windy start to Saturday

Hello Friends,

A stiff northerly breeze was blowing the light rain against RealSurf’s wheelhouse windows as Saturday started. The rain should let up later this morning, but for now, getting a picture from the crows nest is not practical. There isn’t much going on with the surf this morning. Although surface conditions were actually rather smooth, waves are weak and struggling to get above the knee high mark. And from the shape of the forecast models, we’re not likely to see much of anything interesting until mid week. I am liking the look of the more hopeful long range models though. If they’ve got it right, next week could be fun.

Right now it seems to be okay to go to the beach for exercise – as long as you’re not coming from too far afield. How far is too far to travel for a surf? I really don’t know what to tell you, but the point is we each have to minimise our opportunities to encounter the virus to the greatest extent possible. So, keep your distance, wash your hands frequently, avoid high touch surfaces, stop touching your face, cough into the crook of your arm and just generally be conscious of your responsibilities as a good citizen.

Once the rain backs off, I’ll put up a picture or two…

Weather Situation
A series of vigorous cold fronts will sweep across the state over the weekend, with winds turning westerly on Saturday in the wake of the first front, then further turning southwesterly late Sunday or Monday with another front. Following the fronts, winds are expected to ease through the first half of next week as a new ridge of high pressure extends across the region from the west.
