Southerly going hard

Hello Friends,
Made the Manly run this morning, so got a closer look at how the protected stretches are handling the 15-22 kt southerly. As you’d expect, South Steyne and the Bower were clean, the swell at sea while 2.6 metres from 160° at 10 seconds, wasn’t really getting in. Couldn’t see the Bower properly, but south Steyne was only around waist and a bit. It looked pretty weak as well. Going past Curly, I didn’t see anyone in the water, which wasn’t really surprising given how hard the wind’s going. Around at Dee Why the point was, as you can see, sideshore but sort of do-able for the diehards. Swell seemed to be pretty inconsistent too. So a lot of waiting in sideshores for gutless chopped up lumps.
Outlook remains for onshores through to Saturday. The wind goes more east tomorrow, and looking at the forecasts, it might possibly be a little lighter for the early. Unfortunately the models are pointing to average periods in the 8-9 second range. The swell’s set to move around to the east by midweek, but not to come up much, if at all. Right now, Saturday’s not looking great, but maybe Sunday…
Go well, stay safe and take the mask!

Weather Situation
A trough of low pressure lies off the northern New South Wales coast while a high sits to the south of Tasmania. This pattern is producing fresh to strong southerly winds along much of the coast, and these winds are expected to strengthen through the day across most coastal waters as the trough moves closer to the coast. Winds will turn southeasterly across most coastal waters this evening, and then remain east to southeasterly throughout the remainder of the week as the high slowly drifts over the southern Tasman Sea.
