Sizable Saturday

Hello Friends,

At first light skies were overcast and we had 11-13 kts of SW wind. Out at sea the waverider buoy was registering 2.7 metres of 11-12 second swell from the SE (160°). Tide was running out to the 0.5m low at 0925.
Surface conditions were smooth and the lines were long – which meant the better exposed beaches were seeing lots of shutdowns; pretty typical for longer period swell in Sydney. Size looked to be in the head to a bit overhead range on the sets at the better exposures.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system south of the Bight is extending a ridge into New South Wales, while a deep low moves across the southern Tasman Sea. This pattern is bringing fresh to strong southerly winds to coastal areas, and generating a large southerly swell. Winds will gradually ease and shift northeasterly during the weekend as the high moves from the Bight to the Tasman Sea, although a powerful swell is likely to linger. The next trough and southerly change look set to arrive later Monday or Tuesday.
