Blowing hard

Hello Friends,

Windy old morning along the coast as Tuesday got into gear. It was SSW and pushing along at 24-37 kts by 0900. As you can see from the pics, Dee Why is comparatively protected, but there’s not much swell energy around. Swell is dead south and while it’s a couple of metres at sea, the period is just 7 seconds, so there’s not much refraction into the protected south corners. Beachwatch reports that water is still on 18C (which is 1C better than today’s forecast high). They’ve also raised the pollution possible warning at beaches from Manly to Curly and then again from Collaroy to Narrabeen.

There’s not much joy in the Bureau’s marine forecast for our region. Basically we can expect southerly wind through Thursday with a couple of metres of short period, dead south wind bump. Some of the models are predicting that the swell will start moving more to the SE by Thursday and that periods will improve to be in the 10-11 second range by Friday.

Stay safe everyone, get your jab and wear your mask. Even if, like me, you’ve had both jabs, you can still be infected by the virus. You won’t have to go to hospital, but you’ll be able to infect others. My hunch is that masks will be needed inside for a quite some time yet.

Weather Situation

Southwest to southeasterly winds will persist for the coming days as a high pressure system over the Bight extends a ridge across the state, and a low pressure system forms well offshore over the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. Winds will begin to ease mid-week as the high moves further east.
