Super small Saturday surf

Hello Friends,

Solidly overcast as Saturday got started along the beaches. Wind was WSW all night and at daybreak was still coming lightly from that direction. It should stay variable until around midday when it’ll settle to the south.

Out at sea, the swell was around 1.3 metres and coming primarily from the south at 8 seconds apart. Tide was coming in to the 1.74m high at 0930 and there is a 80% chance of some showers by this afternoon.

There were people in the water at Northy, Longy and Dee Why but as the pictures show, although smooth, it was struggling to make thigh high and if you did catch one, it was very weak. Definitely the sort of benign conditions that are good for beginners. Best board for today will be your longest, floatiest option.

Although the swell should pick up from the south, the next couple of days promise to be dominated by rainy weather and stiff S-SE wind. The rainy stuff looks like being a daily likelihood right across the coming work week. Unfortunately, it also seems that we can expect lots of southerly wind too. So, even if you don’t mind the dull weather and rain, surf options are going to be limited.

If you’re planning to make the line in the sand at south Narrabeen next weekend, the more hopeful forecasts are showing partly cloudy and cool conditions…

Go well one and all!

Weather Situation

A trough of low pressure over the central coastal waters extends to the far northwest of the state. This system will slowly move north and linger in the northern coast as a high pressure system over the Bight moves across the south during the weekend. There is currently some uncertainty around the movement of the trough, however, it is expected to reach the far north coast and weaken by late Monday.
