Sunny and just barely big enough to be surfable

Hello Friends,

A beautiful summer morning with sunny skies and a high of 29 in prospect later. As the pictures show, there were very small waves around the place as Saturday got started. Waves were looking weak and slow too, but with the right equipment, you could sort of burbble along for a ways. We have a 2 metre high tide at 0935, so in addition to everything else, it’s fat and full. A good morning to take the floatiest surf toy in your quiver and ideal conditions for learners.  At 0700 swell at sea was around 0.9 m from the ESE but the period was a healthy 11 seconds — which is why it’s possible to catch something.  Wind is set to be variable this morning and then to settle to the NE later. The  ocean’s still on 20C, so many of us will still be in wetties.

Outlook is for the tiny stuff to get tinier tomorrow and to remain so through to the middle of the week. Beyond that the models are telling us to expect the swell to gradually build from the east by about Friday as an east coast low starts doing its thing. Right now it doesn’t look to hopeful on the wind front though. The call is for a mix of onshores  across the weekend and then southerlies after that… but it’s a long way out, so we shall see.

Go well with your Saturday everyone and happy hols to all.

Weather Situation

A slow-moving high is expected to remain over the southern Tasman Sea for quite a while, with a ridge extending to the north coast of New South Wales. A weak southerly change is expected to affect the southern half of the coast on Saturday, otherwise winds will remain generally east to southeast on the north coast and northeasterly over the remainder. They are expected to freshen on Monday and Tuesday and strengthen further on Wednesday ahead of a fresh southerly in the far south late in the day.
