Looks like the swell’s starting to fill in at Northy (vid)
It was tiny this morning, but when I checked Northy around 1100, the swell was clearly evident. Carpark Rights were doing their crunchy thing and although busy, the waves were coming frequently enough that you didn’t have long to wait for your turn. Check out how many takeoff there are in this 90-sec clip…
Curly this morning (vid)
Went for a quick sesh at north Curly this morning. Crowd thickened up steadily because it was really a pretty fun little peak between 0830 and 1000. Here’s a taste of the conditions…
North Curly and Dee Why video minutes
Two video minutes for you this morning. First is Curly from about 0630… And the second from Dee Why, about 20 mins later.
Video: Go surfing with Don and his GoPro
For those of you who couldn’t get in the water Wednesday morning at Dee Why, here’s a little postcard from me courtesy of my still somewhat dodgy, home built GoPro rig. (Developed with help from vinnies and a bike shop that gave me some inner tubes, for a massive budget of $5). And I know, […]
Video: Dee Why point this morning with a GoPro
Messing around this morning at Dee Why point with a homemade rig to hold a GoPro Hero3. Kinda sorta worked, but further experimentation needed. Anyway, I cut the shots together with a tune from Dave Kowalski. Have a look and then, be nice to me and go make a pledge for the crowdfunding drive! BTW, […]
Vid experiment from Don
Stopped by Curly this morning and shot a brief video on my phone. Not sure it’s much use in and of itself, but I’m learning about the limitations and possibilities…
Out and about in search of swell + video!
Hello Friends, My brain was spinning with ideas for the site and the crowdfunding project, so I was up before daybreak making notes and thinking. Decided to hop in the car and go down to the beach to have a look and to make a short video about the crowdfunding stuff. Surf situation seems to […]
VIDEO: Sth Narrabeen tow-ins this morning (Weds)
Spent awhile watching and shooting the crazy persons towing in to crunching double plus overhead waves at south Narrabeen. Long wait for waves, so I only came away with a small gallery (to be posted later). I also fired up the video mode on my Nikon D7000 and grabbed a few somewhat shaky* clips for […]
VIDEO: Footage of Michael Peterson surfing Winki Pop in 1977
In 1977, Michael Peterson was widely regarded as one of the greatest surfers of his generation. And he still is. Some very good obituaries have already appeared (see links below) and undoubtedly many more will follow as surfing’s global tribe reflects on the passing of an iconic figure. In retrospect it was good luck that […]

How’s this for a concept? The Tasmanian Surf Life Saving Association is going to teach big wave chasers “safety survival skills to help them when out in the water”. You can check out the video news item on the ABC’s website by clicking here.
