Another flat morning at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

Well, it may be abjectly tiny along the coast of NSW this Sunday, but the forecast models have taken a turn for the optomistic in the last day or so.

First to matters at hand, and we have not more than a metre of south swell on average out at sea. The period is an utterly gutless 7 seconds. Hardly surprising that it’s so hopeless.

The Bureau says it should stay fine through most of the day in Sydney, but there could be a few showers toward dusk. The wind isn’t doing much as I write this a little before 0900, but it is set to kick up to 20-25 kts from the N-NE by early afternoon and should be stronger again toward the close of day.

Tomorrow is forecast to have WSW winds from 25-35kts. Swell? Uh, yeah. Probably not… but dig this summary from the Bureau:

Synoptic Situation
A low pressure trough will extend through Bass Strait during the day on route to the southern Tasman Sea where it will establish itself as a deep low east of Tasmania on Monday. North to northwest winds will gradually strengthen during the day ahead of a gusty westerly change over southern and central parts tonight. Strong to gale force westerly winds will affect southern and central parts on Monday, easing slowly on Tuesday as the low loses influence and the next high moves towards Victoria. It is possible that winds could reach storm force in far southern waters on Monday. A southerly flow is expected on Wednesday, tending more southeast for the second half of the week.

The aforementioned swell models are currently calling for the swell to kick up hard from first thing Tueseday morning. It’s set to be dead south but with a decent 10-12 sec period. The forerunners could be into the 2-3 metre range. Currently the forecasts are showing the energy peaking over night Tuesday at 4-5 metres and potentially up to 13 second periods. That would be seriously juicy. By Wednesday morning it’ll could still be near the peak power and size settings.

The wind will be an issue though. The Bureau is calling for SW-S winds 20-25kts on Tuesday, but being a more reasonable SW-SE 10-15kts. Doesn’t look like it’ll be ideal photography weather sadly because the Bureau says we could have a few showers from Weds through Saturday.

Oh, by the way, we’ve spent the last few months working toward a new design for RealSurf and it looks like, fingers crossed, that we can finally show it to you. The changeover will see us go off air for some hours. I’ll post updates on the progress on the forums, as they should not be affected by the changes. I’ll also post an update here as we get up to the changeover.

Go well with your day!
