Manly Surf Report
Posted on June 27th, 2009 in Manly.Well its a bit smaller than the previous few days sadly and one would think that its a nice opportunity to do some chores and earn some brownie points round the house. A shame as conditions are perfect. Still a few fun sized sets around but they are few and far between. Most sets are waist high and there is the normal Sat morning crew heavily amongst it already.
1-2 feet, glassy and hellishly crowded
Posted on June 27th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Looks like flies in soup this morning with a solid crowd battling for the small, weak, 1-2 foot waves. It’s glassy and the Buoys showing 1m@8 secs which is not spectacular. Forecast models are indicating a new swell around Tuesday. Enjoy.

The clouds have rolled in
Posted on June 27th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Gloomy start to the day along the beaches of Sydney. At first light, the skies were heavily overcast and the odd shower was falling. Huey’s left the swell settings pretty much where they were as of yesterday evening. So, the usual advice applies: if you found waves there yesterday, then it’d probably be a good idea to look there first today.
Wind is light and should remain so through the day. Swell’s out of the SSE at the moment, maybe a metre on average and sporting a power setting of 9 seconds. Should be waist to chest high on sets at the exposed spots.
These conditions should stick around through tomorrow morning – at least.
Outlook for the coming week has improved since the last run of the models. It now looks as though it will be around the present size through Tuesday morning, before it starts to bump up into the 2-3 metre range with a period setting in the 10-12 second range. At least one model reckons it’ll be coming from the ESE and that our winds will be out of the NW. That could be good!
Don talks surf this morning with ABC 702 weekend show’s Simon Marnie.
Next tide today is a high a little after noon.

Winding down, but not gone
Posted on June 26th, 2009 in At large, Dee Why, Gardens, North Narrabeen.Hello Friends,
Did the Collaroy Plateau ridge run for a quick survey of the swell status. There seems to be some NE left in the tank, but it’s mainly showing at the really exposed stretches. For instance, there are waves up at Northy, but they’re smaller and less consistent looking compared to the chest high sets getting into Gardens.
Around at the Longy to Dee Why stretch, the same phenomenon is visible, but it’s a bit smaller. There is a small south line showing at Butterbox and weakly at Longy, but it’s too marginal to have attracted any punters. The bulk of people in the water this morning were down the south end of the beach, picking over the odds and sods popping up in the general vicinity of the SLSC. A couple of folks on longer equipment were poking around at the point for something catchable.
Wind was not a factor for the early and the tide was benign as well.
Have posted all yesterday’s watershots from Dee Why point on my site.

Byron Bay today June 25th 2009
Posted on June 26th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It was a Pastel kind of day, In Byron Bay Today. Pastel? I here you say. Well let me try to explain. There were waves, but they were a little weird. There was no rain, but it wasn’t sunny. There were clouds but it wasn’t grey. There was light but it wasn’t bright. It was quiet beautiful day yet a little eerily reminiscent of nineteenth century impressionism art. That is of course if you exclude the people with surfboards and cars getting around the place. There were waves to be had, and occassionaly it looked good and felt kinda fun and then again it didn’t quite really do it. The swell was a little wobbly the sand is on the move yet again. It was nice and uncrowded and there were moments when it double sucked and got funky. But it was all just a bit weird, In Byron Bay Today.
Watershots from Dee Why
Posted on June 25th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello all,
Been awhile since I had a water camera and a chance to surf the point. Put those two together from around 1100 to around 1400 and came back with a few keepers to share. An extremely fun sesh too. Crowd ranged from 4-10 depending, so it was no drama for your ancient mariner correspondent to snag a few as well. Had such a good wave (in that I surfed it about as well as I can surf) for my last one too. Dontcha love when you can finish up on a really good wave? Just leaves ya glowing I reckon. Anyhoo, herewith a sample of the pics I got. I’ll be posting everything I shot later over on my own site just in case anyone in the water wants one.
