Paddle for Pete

Peter Bilsborough Fundraising Event

Saturday 26 June 2010

A fun and important fundraising paddle is to be held for Pete Bilsborough following his life changing surfing accident over Easter. It’s open to anyone who can paddle ie. board paddlers, stand up paddlers, ski paddlers, board paddlers, surf boat rowers, outriggers, kayaks, canoes etc.

Peter Morgan, member of Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club, is hosting a Paddle at Palm Beach.  $35 per paddler (incl $5 for insurance).  The rest of the money is donated to Pete.  Cash Only.

On the Easter long weekend, Pete Bilsborough was involved in a tragic surfing accident.

Funding from this event will go towards treatment and modifications to Pete’s living arrangements when he eventually comes out of the intensive care spinal unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Pete and his family are mates of The Goat’s, so I’d like you all to help out.

Details

7.00am – 7.45am sharp -Registration: Pittwater side of Palm Beach, 200 metres north of The Boat House Cafe.

8.15am – Paddle Start: Rolling ocean 200 metres out from South Palmy break.

Course: around Barrenjoey Head into Pittwater.  1. to Palm Beach Pittwater side registration spot – 5 ks. 2. ditto via Mackerel and back to start at South Palmie – 10ks.

10.30am – Social Paddle and Demo: Pittwater side of Palm beach 200 metres north

of The Boat House Cafe. Boards will be available use for those who wish to demo any equipment. If you have paid registration in the race the demo is free. If not, to demo the boards for 45 minutes will be at the charge of $30.

All proceeds go to the Bilsboroughs.

Logistics: Best plan is to register before 7.45am at Pittwater side of Palm Beach as per above. Then drop your board/ boat/ board around to South Palmy. Then take car back to where you are registered so that it is there for you when you finish and then make

your way back to South Palm Beach (approx 10 minute walk, or 2 minute drive if you have someone to give you a lift back) to start the event.

Safety: It is advised that you wear a PFD when paddling, as it will be in the ocean, although use of a PFD is entirely up to the paddlers comfort level.

Weather: If conditions are looking bad, the call will be made Friday lunchtime, and all relevant websites will be updated. Course dependant on weather conditions.

After the paddle (one of which is social, one is competitive) there will be a stand up paddle demo and families and individuals can hire out boards and paddles to have a go. The charge for this is $30 per board (if you have already paid for race entry it is free. For families who would like to demo a board they pay per board not per person so they would generally all share one board).
